Interview: Ingrid Hahn

Jen: Today we welcome Ingrid Hahn to Romancing the Book. Ingrid, will you share a short bio with us?
Ingrid: Ingrid Hahn is a failed administrative assistant with a B.A. in Art History. Her love of reading has turned her mortgage payment into a book storage fee, which makes her the friend who you never want to ask you for help moving. Though originally from Seattle, she now lives in the metropolitan DC area with her ship-nerd husband, small son, and four opinionated cats. When she’s not reading or writing, she loves knitting, theater, nature walks, travel, history, and is a hopelessly devoted fan of Jane Austen.

Jen: Tell us about your newest release.
Ingrid: Marital Duty is one of those books whose opening came to me first in a random time and place. I wasn’t thinking about much, daydreaming a little, then the opening kinda wandered into my head–literally the opening scenario, with the enormous disconnect between a husband and wife’s sex life–but I wasn’t really paying attention…then I turned it over in my brain and BAM. Suddenly I was paying attention because it was so weird and improbable. I thought to myself that I had to try writing about that. All I had was the opening, so I went from there, challenging myself to write five pages every night. I wrote without having a clue about what would be coming next; everything fell into place as I typed. When it was finished, I shelved it, thinking nobody would ever want to read it, picked at it over the years. Finally I worked up the nerve to polish it and send it to Loose Id, where the incredible Larke Butler gave the book it’s final glowing polish.

Jen: Describe an ideal date.
Ingrid: Ice skating! Or any time with my beloved. Seriously, we have a toddler, so that time is precious.

Jen: What is your favorite dance move?
Ingrid: Foxtrot promenade.

Jen: What is your favorite picnic food?
Ingrid: Fresh berries.

Jen: Favorite place to vacation?
Ingrid: France

Jen: Favorite piece of jewelry?
Ingrid: My wedding ring.

Jen: Favorite childhood story?
Ingrid: When I was two, I asked a priest if he had a penis.

Jen: What song do you put on replay?
Ingrid: My wedding song, Shine, by Vienna Teng, from her Warm Strangers album.

Jen: How far from where you grew up do you live?
Ingrid: Three thousand miles. :'(

Jen: What is your fashion style?
Ingrid: Anything fully covered without old food stains is a win, preferably with a skirt because having to separately encase each leg is a special kind of tyranny.

Jen: Are you handy? crafty?
Ingrid: I love to knit and I’m trying to teach myself how to sew.

Jen: Which reality show would you want to be on?
Ingrid: Great British Baking Show in the old Mary Berry days…but not as a contestant, as a host. I want to taste everything and not get kicked off!

Jen: What is your favorite genre to read?
Ingrid: Historical Romance has my heart in every way it can. Thank you to all the authors and readers in this amazing community!

Jen: What’s next for you?
Ingrid: A book called WILLFUL DEPRAVITY, another erotic romance, this time for Entangled’s Scorched line. I’m very, very proud of this book. It’s intense. My hero is larger than life. My heroine is just plain large…in addition to being all kinds of awesome–I wanted to write a book featuring a kickass #effyourbeautystandards heroine, but in the Regency. This couple is amazing. The chemistry 100% lives up to the promise of the Scorched line…it is scorching. The book is my best yet. Then on the 15th of January, I’m turning in a proposal for medieval romance. Fingers crossed!
