If Hugh of Shoebury felt unworthy of Alice before, as the Half-Thistle spy he can never claim her heart. Now he must fight to keep not only his dark secrets—and Alice—safe from a vengeful king…but also his burning longing for her at bay!

Review: Ms. Locke has written a Christmas Romance that is filled with characters that tug at your heart. A perfect read for the holidays to bring a little magic and hope into your life.

Alice and Hugh are perfect for each other. To me it was another beauty and the beast type of story.  Alice is a very strong woman; just as strong as any man. Hugh thinks she is a mistress to the king when in fact she is a spy; just as he is a spy…   Alice has a very kind, gentle and loving demeanor. Whereas Hugh is rough, surly, and unwilling to trust. He has had a hard time since he was a child…issues.

I liked their love/hate relationship from the beginning as it made the story more realistic. Also put a strong focus on the interaction between the characters making them more likable with real flaws that one can relate to.   Ms. Locke brought us danger, love, hate, emotions and real issues. With the story and characters being well written I could feel the energy/chemistry between Alice and Hugh.

I enjoyed the strong woman (Alice) that stands her ground… This is a story that will make you think. It will also have you realizing that there is more to people; everyone hides things which just may make them angry or surly towards others.

I would recommend this read not only for the season but anytime. I loved it.
