Interview: Torie James

Jen:  Today we welcome Torie James back to Romancing the Book.  Torie, will you share a short bio with us?
Torie: Born on the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous, I am the illegitimate love child of Han Solo and Daenerys Targaryen. Rescued by Gandalf shortly before my home planet was destroyed in the last days of the Clone Wars, I was raised in relative obscurity by my foster parents, Severus Snape and Pippi Longstocking. At the tender age of 113, I inherited the best little whorehouse in Texas and its been rumored that I am bringing Sexy Back. A self confessed chocoholic, I’ve been engaged to Willy Wonka for several years despite gossip surrounding millionaire Bruce Wayne and myself.

And clearly, I practice delusion on a daily basis.

Fact is nowhere as fun as fiction!

Growing up, I could be found nearby falling down rabbit holes, catching second stars to the right, and stepping through wardrobes into mysterious lands and countless adventures. When those stories ended, I made up her own and kept going. This later on translated into a strong passion for writing that has helped keep my feet on the ground while my head stayed firmly in the clouds.

Jen: Please tell us about your newest release and where the idea came from.
Torie: I am a HUGE fan of the Twilight Zone. I’ve seen every episode and I am the dork who eagerly and happily waits for 2 x a year marathon some TV stations hold.

This collection started out on a dare. I love romance. I am dreamy swoony over romance! Erotica, I love reading it…but didn’t think I could write it very well. Then a good friend of mine tossed out a random comment and next thing I know….I am eagerly penning steamy smut.

If you like the twisty hot erotica, characters with countless layers and a bit of a surprise just when you think you’ve got it figured out…

Then I happily submit to you my Fractured Fantasies…Volume 6!

Here’s a short excerpt:

 Home sweet Hell.

The cloaked figure stood on the ageless moss covered hillock, scanning the woodlands below with wary caution. Her ears caught every twitter, snarl, howl and low growl that the inhabitants offered up. The moon hung in the sky, a silent sentinel beaming its silvery glow over the playground of her childhood.

She’d only been gone a little over a year, the innocence of youth hardened into a wearied world view that lent her face a somber cast, dulling the once bright light in her hazel eyes.

The need for revenge was like a rat gnawing at her soul, relentless, unceasing; it could only be stopped by the cold steel of a rattrap, a trap she would devise herself. Her need for revenge was like an abscess on the skin of the soul that could only be cured by the cruel sharp steel point of revenge. Festering like a septic wound, and the only effective antibiotic was cold hard revenge. Savage. Spiteful. A dish best served cold. Unforgiving. She couldn’t, no, wouldn’t rest until her mission was complete.

She’d come home to settle old scores. Beyond that, she’d no idea of what the future held.

The news reached the farthest borders of all the suzerainties that made up this Realm. The Vanishing Lands, The Bog Lands, FableMere and of course, the Enchanted Forest.

By command of the Earl Marshall, all citizens of the outlying territories beyond the Enchanted Forest are cordially invited to the Coronation and Crowning of the New Queen on the Fifth Day of September at One o’Clock in the afternoon. Ceremony to commence within the Castle Courtyard.

The Evil Queen was dead.

Long live the New Queen.

No one had any clue that they’d been better off with the Evil Queen.

Jen: Are there any other writers, published or not, in your family?
Torie: Yes! My baby sister, Perci Brooks, has written and published 3 books and is currently working on her 4th, 5th and 6th! Her boundless energy annoys me! *laughs* Actually, I envy her!

Jen: Describe your writing in 3 words.
Torie: Dark. Passionate. Chaotic.

Jen: How do you remember ideas that come to you at odd times?
Torie: Gods bless the Smartphone ‘Memo’ or ‘Note’ app. It’s saved my life!

Jen: Is there a genre you’d like to write? Is there one you’ll probably stay away from?
Torie: Yes, historical! I want to write about Anne Boleyn.  Horror. I’ve tried it and then end up scrapping it because it ends up turning out more comical than horrifying.

Jen: What’s the most interesting comment you’ve received about your books?
Torie: “I gotta be honest, babe. This doesn’t suck at all. Not even a little.” True story. It was from a dear friend of mine. I couldn’t even be irritated. I thought it was awesome!

Jen: What’s next for you?
Torie: I’ve got several projects going at once! Carnal Connection, a short novella about a descendant of Sherlock Holmes, Frankenstein: Legacy, which is a novel about the ‘real’ events that inspired the Frankenstein story. I’m also nearly done with the 3rd Book in my New Camelot Series. Oh! And I have a short story releasing December 23rd called The Ghost of Secret’s Gate (Loch Ness Legends #1). Sexy Scottish Ghost haunting a castle on the shores of Loch Ness while trying to solve a centuries old mystery? Yes, please!
