Interview & Contest: Mira Stanley

mira-stanley-bio-picJen: Today we welcome Mira Stanley to Romancing the Book. Mira, will you share a short bio with us?
Mira: Mira dreams of a life where hairy-chested, foul-mouthed pool men serve cocktails while she reads in the embrace of a shady hammock. Her reality looks more like errands, carpooling, sneaking in writing time when she can, and snuggling with her husband and kids after a regular-old day in the Pacific Northwest.

Sex is sacred. It’s also fun. That’s why Mira writes smut with feeling. In her perfect world, every woman who wants it would have access to entertaining, titillating, thought-provoking stories in an environment free of shame.

Jen: Tell us a little about your newest release.
Mira: Thanks for having me on Romancing the Book today! I’m excited to be here!

I’ve got a real treat for readers who love it when a man gets fixated on a woman and will stop at nothing to make her his.

Irresistible Jerk is the steamy second novella in my Dirty Minds series. It’s about a virgin who arranges to live out her dirtiest fantasies with a tattooed construction worker. But he’s not about to let her use him without getting what he wants in return: a girlfriend.

In the Dirty Minds series, I’m focusing on one couple—who will eventually turn into a triad… Cara McKenna’s Curio Vignettes series inspired me to revolve a whole series around the same characters. I love a concise story with a happy-ever-after, but I also love a saga where there are episodes of sexual discovery and character development.

In the Dirty Minds series, readers will get to know each player intimately. They’ll experience ups and downs and a whole slew of fantasies brought to life. I can’t wait to get more of Joe and Kelly (and Rico) on the page!

Definitely subscribe to my mailing list so you don’t miss any releases!

Here’s an excerpt from Irresistible Jerk, Dirty Minds book 2:

“What’s in it for me?”

Her brows slammed together. No one expressed affront like my sunshine. “What do you mean what’s in it for you? Same thing that’s in it for me. Sex. Lots of hot, adventurous sex.”

“Hate to break it to you, sweetheart, but I can get that anywhere.”

Her eyes went round and wounded.

I lifted her chin to make her look at me. “Not saying that to hurt you.” Never to hurt her. To make it right, I was willing to lay a bit of myself on the line. “Look, you’re asking me to be in your bed without giving me what I really want, which is a girlfriend I can take out and spoil and show off to everybody. Instead, you want to keep me a secret. If I’m gonna go along with this, I want something in return.”

Her slender throat moved with a swallow. “What do you want in return?”

“You wanna live out your fantasies with me? I want the same deal. I get to live mine out with you.”

She blinked, like the idea of me having fantasies surprised her.

“We got a deal?” I asked before she could think too hard and long about it. “I mean, it’s only fair, right?”

She narrowed her eyes. “Depends on what your fantasies are like.”

“Honey, I can tell you one thing. They’re more vanilla than yours.”

Skeptical didn’t begin to explain the way that one eyebrow arched.

“Deal?” I held out my hand.

She grasped it. “Deal.”

Don’t wait! Get your hands on Irresistible Jerk, Dirty Minds book 2, which is out now. In the meantime, here’s a little bit about me:

Jen: What age did you discover writing?  Tell us your call story.
Mira: I was earning a Ph.D. at the University of Washington and was pregnant with my daughter when I began writing seriously. It started out as a way to exercise the creative part of my brain that was getting stifled by all the scholarly articles and research studies. I’d already earned a clinical doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.) and was going on my eighth year of graduate school. To put it simply, I was burning out on school. And I was discouraged because I was four years into my Ph.D. when I finally admitted to myself that a career in academia wasn’t for me.

Writing provided something creative for me to do while I incubated a baby and grappled with the decision to drop out of the Ph.D. program. It quickly turned into a passion. Within five years, I had a contract with a small press for a Highlander time-travel romance, and that’s where I got my start!

Jen: Who are some of your favorite authors?  What are you reading now?
Mira: My top favorites for erotic romance are Charlotte Stein, Cara McKenna, Alexa Riley, Bronwyn Green, & Evangeline Anderson. I’m also a big fan of time-travel romance writers Barbara Longley, Karen Marie Moning, and Angela Quarles.

I just finished reading a rare non-romance: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Next up is more of Evangeline Anderson’s alien hunks!

Jen: Do you have a favorite character or one you most identify with?
Mira: I identify strongly with Kelly in Irresistible Jerk. She’s got a background steeped in religion and rules, but she’s trying to break away from all that. She wants to find her own way, her own beliefs, and her own morals, rather than having them dictated to her.

Kelly is also majorly attracted to bad boys. That’s totally me. I’ll choose bad language and a rebellious streak over gentlemanly behavior every time of the day, any day of the week!

Jen: Is there a genre you’d like to write?  Is there one you’ll probably stay away from?  Why?
Mira: I’ve got some sci-fi erom in the works. I love the trope of aliens in need of human woman. I also love the theme of religious refugee, or a woman escaping from a cult-like situation. I’m blending these two themes in my sci-fi’s. If that appeals to you, sign up for my newsletter so you get an update when those books become available.

I’m also working on several shorter works for upcoming anthologies. Think priests and werewolves…

Jen: What do you do in your free time?
Mira: I’ll let these pictures speak for me. I might have a slight addiction to yarn.

This book sounds intriguing. Can’t wait to read more about Joe, Kelly, and Rico. If you could have dinner with one of your characters, who would it be and why?

    • Oh, it would definitely be Rico. He’s a huge flirt, and he’s a sexy firefighter. We’d have a blast.

Thanks for commenting, Joanne! Nice to meet you!

  2. Christy says:

This sounds like a great series! I love when authors stick with the same characters over the course of a series. It gives readers the chance to really get to know the characters.
