Jen: Our next guest with the Entangled Takeover is Christina Elle. Christina, will you share a short bio with us?
Christina: Christina believes that laughter really is the best medicine, which is why in her stories she blends a healthy dose of hilarious hijinks with gritty suspense.
When she’s not writing fun contemporary romance or quirky romantic suspense, Christina can be found devouring books in every genre, watching Chris Hemsworth on TV, playing board games with her family, working out, checking out Chris Hemsworth on Facebook, napping, stalking Chris Hemsworth on Instagram, and shopping…for Chris Hemsworth’s latest DVD.
Christina lives near Baltimore with her husband and two sons, who give her an endless supply of humorous material to write about.
She loves connecting with readers. You can find her online at:
Jen: Please tell us about your newest release and where the idea came from.
Christina: ON HER SIX pairs a stubborn, wanna-be cop with a pissy, thinks-he-knows-it-all DEA Agent. I love witty banter and two characters who are always getting on each other’s nerves, so this one was a fun story to write.
The heroine, Samantha Harper, works as a clerk for Baltimore City Police. She’s been searching for her dad, who is presumed dead after he worked as an undercover cop trying to capture a drug dealer. She lives across the street from her grandmother, who is head of the neighborhood watch. The rest of the watch is made up of three other old ladies who each bring their own flare to the story.
Ash Cooper is DEA and is in Baltimore because there’s a dangerous drug dealer lurking in the area (it’s the same drug dealer Sam’s dad was after. UH OH!! hehe). Ash is only supposed to report back to the team on what he sees so they can bring the bad guy in. But when Sam lands herself in trouble, he has no choice but to save her. Suspicious of their new neighbor and wanting to keep their street safe, Sam and her pack of grannies host a stakeout to learn as much as they can about Ash. What ensues is hilarious, action-packed and steamy.
The story came to me one morning as I was heading out to my day job. I remember walking to my car and thinking about someone coming up behind me with a gun. What would I do? I thought. How would I handle the situation? What does the mugger want and why?
From there, I answered my questions, dreamed up some characters, and brought the idea to life. Samantha being held at gunpoint on her way to work is actually the opening scene of ON HER SIX.
Jen: What was your most romantic date?
Christina: My husband and I were friends before we got married, so we did more “hanging out” with each other playing video games and eating pizza than we did having romantic dates. But I’ll say that when it came time for him to propose, he blew it out of the water. The hubs is a cop, so on my way to work one morning he had his buddy pull me over. I honestly thought I was getting a ticket. Instead, my husband got down on one knee right there on the side of the road next to my car. It was memorable and a great story for our grandkids.
Jen: Favorite flavor of ice cream?
Christina: Peanut Butter Ripple. The more PB the better!
Jen: Favorite sport to watch?
Jen: Favorite gift received from a fan?
Christina: I haven’t gotten anything from a fan yet, but I’m excited at the prospect! ☺
Jen: What is your guilty pleasure?
Christina: Chris Hemsworth. Watching his movies, checking out his Instagram, pinning pictures on my Pinterest boards. He’s the inspiration for just about all of my heroes.
Jen: How neat is your work environment?
Christina: My work environment changes from day-to-day depending upon where I am, but I’d say that it’s pretty orderly because I carry my laptop and notebook around with me. That’s all I need, so wherever I am I just sit and start writing!
Jen: What was the last movie you saw in the theater?
Christina: Captain America: Civil War
Jen: What TV family would you want to be a part of?
Christina: I don’t watch TV much anymore, but I do catch episodes of Flip or Flop. I’d love to be adopted by Tarek and Christina. I suck at decorating/designing and would love to be able to call them up and get their help.
Jen: Describe your writing style in one word.
Jen: Do you have a mentor?
Christina: Not officially. I do have a really fantastic friend/critique partner who helps me a lot. Her name is M.D. Waters. She’s uber talented with an INCREDIBLE voice. She totally gets my humor and writing style, which helps a ton when I’m questioning my ability or need to chat out plot issues.
Jen: Camping or hotel?
Christina: Hotel for sure.
Jen: iPhone or android?
Christina: iPhone. I’m a recent convert and I totally see the appeal now.
Jen: What’s next for you?
Christina: I’m almost finished writing book two in the Under Covers series, which will feature Luke Calder, Ash’s best friend and DEA teammate. His love interest is Cassandra Stone, a guidance counselor at a Baltimore-area high school where students are mysteriously dying after taking drugs. It’s been enjoyable to revisit the characters and see where they are after ON HER SIX ended. The gang’s all back, including the old ladies from the neighborhood watch.
