Chris: Award winning author Chris Cannon lives in Southern Illinois with her husband and her three dogs, Pete the shitzu who sleeps on her desk while she writes, Molly the ever-shedding yellow lab, and Tyson the sandwich-stealing German Shepherd Beagle. She believes coffee is the Elixir of Life. Most evenings after work, you can find her sucking down caffeine and writing fire-breathing paranormal adventures or romantic comedies.

Jen: Please tell us about your newest release and where the idea came from.
Chris: The Boyfriend Bet is an opposites attract/forbidden love story. Zoe Cain kisses her brother’s nemesis, snob Grant Evertide, out of spite. For Grant this is a win-win situation, he gets to kiss a cute girl and it gives him a new and entertaining way to annoy her brother. Zoe and Grant end up being partners in foods class, baking cupcakes together and talking about the zombie apocalypse safe farmhouse/compound where she lives.

Zoe is funny, and Grant enjoys spending time with her, but he isn’t interested in an exclusive relationship-even if he can’t stop kissing her, which lands them both in detention repeatedly.

Zoe’s brother claims Grant is trying to make her his “Ringer,” an oh-so-charming tradition where a popular guy dates a non-popular girl until he hooks up with her, then dumps her. Grant swears he isn’t trying to trick her. Zoe threatens to neuter him with hedge clippers if she hears otherwise. Still, that doesn’t mean Grant is the commitment type—even if winning a bet is on the line.

I love writing snarky kick-butt young women who go after what they want and refuse to put up with crap from anyone. Zoe is a bit of a drama queen, but she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. I like the idea of a girl falling for her brother’s nemesis because navigating the dating world is hard enough if your family likes the guy you’re with, much less if they hate him.

Jen:  What was your most romantic date?
Chris: When I started dating my husband – in college, he would leave roses under the windshield wiper of my car for me to find when I left to go to class in the morning. It was such a sweet, silly gesture. Half of the time the roses were frozen solid, but I loved it.

Jen:  Favorite flavor of ice cream?
Chris: Anything with chocolate, or peanut butter, or chocolate and peanut butter

Jen:  Favorite sport to watch?
Chris: American Ninja Warrior

Jen:  Favorite gift received from a fan?
Chris: I love when fans send me fan art depicting the characters in my books.

Jen:   What is your guilty pleasure?
Chris: Binge watching Doctor Who or Supernatural while crocheting. (Yes, I am a party animal.)

Jen:  How neat is your work environment?
Chris: Neat isn’t a word I’d use to describe my working environment. I’m a piler. I pile papers on all the flat surfaces I can find until there is a landslide, and then I clean up and start over.

Jen:  What was the last movie you saw in the theater?
Chris: Star Wars

Jen:  What TV family would you want to be a part of?
Chris: The Originals, so I could be an immortal kick-butt vampire.

Jen:  Describe your writing style in one word.
Chris: Snarky

Jen: Do you have a mentor?
Chris: No

Jen: Camping or hotel?
Chris: Hotel

Jen: iPhone or android?
Chris: iPhone

Jen: What’s next for you?
Chris: Currently, I’m working on the fourth book in my Going Down In Flames series. It’s about a girl named Bryn. When she turns 16 flames shoot out of her mouth, and that’s the first clue she has that she’s a shape-shifting dragon. *surprise

Once I finish the dragon book, I’ll start working on the third book in the Boyfriend Chronicles series.
