The Playboy’s Proposal by Ashlee Mallory
Release Date: July 25, 2016
Doctor Benny Sorensen has had it up to here with her party-throwing playboy neighbor. She’s declaring war. She doesn’t care how gorgeous or charming he is, he’s going down. That is until he proposes something she’s not sure she can say no to…
Wealthy ad man Henry Ellison lives an uncomplicated life that revolves around work, women, and partying. In that order. Until Benny storms into his life. To placate his attractive but hotheaded neighbor, Henry offers to help her land a date with the man of her dreams. Only as Henry makes her over and coaches her on the fine art of flirting, he realizes that the idea of this woman in any other man’s arms but his own is unacceptable. But Benny’s a forever kind of girl and forever might just be the one commitment he can’t make.
You can definitely count me in the camp of writers who prefer to listen to music as they write. I consider the music as my book’s soundtrack, just as you would have for any RomCom on the big screen. In fact, when I’m stuck or feeling blocked on writing words on any given day, playing music often helps the words start flowing again.
I like to think this was influence by my early devotion to romantic movies. I remember summers at my grandparents (who had cable and American Movie Classics) where I’d watch old black and white movies starring the likes of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Cary Grant, and Jimmy Stewart. (Of course , so you don’t think I was a complete dork, I also heavily supplemented my movies lists with the present day movies of the time, too, LOL!)
For this story, a mix up of an Ugly Duckling to Swan and Enemies to Friends to Lovers story, I had a mix of songs appropriate from a Fred and Ginger movie (courtesy of Michael Bublé) all the way to present day movies. This was due in great part because the hero of our story, ad man Henry Ellison, was in many ways old school in his tastes, appreciating the old classic songs by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra along with a glass of scotch or bourbon.
In no particular order, here is a list of a few of the songs that made my playlist for The Playboy’s Proposal. There are always a few keepers on here that I use in more than one book as well as new ones that were spot on for the mood I needed for Benny and Henry’s story. Hope you find some of them inspirational to you too!
