“A broken vampire and a driven doctor, seized by a passion neither can afford.”

Dr. Alexis Byornsson has her hands full in the ER when her patient s uncle blows into the exam room. Stitching up a five-year-old s cut is hard enough without a blond god distracting her all to hell.

To say she s furious is putting it mildly not that anyone would notice. Not with the legendary control that s earned her the nickname Dr. Frozen .

Luke Steel never knew a woman chastising him could be so sexy. But for the first time in three hundred years, passion stirs in his gut along with panic. Since his wife was taken before his eyes in a brutal attack, he s sworn he d never feel that powerless again.

Almost before either Luke or Alexis realize what s happening, they re sharing a blazing kiss that shatters her logical armor and unleashes his wholly unwanted mating instinct. And spurs a closer-than-skin enemy to put into motion a devastating plan for revenge.

“Warning: This book contains a hot doctor and a hotter vampire messing up sterile surfaces. The usual rogue shenanigans, but this time covering deeper motives. Hang on to your stethoscopes at what s revealed!””

Review: If you read my review of Assassins Bite you would know that I was disappointed with how the story unfolded. However, being a firm believer of second chances I decided to continue the series by reading Passion Bites. This is the ninth book in the series, but it can be read as a stand-alone.

In this installment we meet Dr. Alexis Byornsson and Luke Steel. Alexis is 39 years old. She has never been in a serious relationship as her main focus until now had been her career. Currently her focus is on helping her best friend who was involved in an abusive relationship. She was nicknamed Dr. Frozen by her peers due to her cool and calm exterior. She hardly ever finds the time to unwind and socialize thus making her appear stand-offish. However, this would change the day Luke Steel walked into the ER. Alexis has a heart of gold. She is brave, intelligent and selfless. She is willing to risk her safety to protect those she cared for.

Luke is a 400-year-old vampire who has been nursing a broken heart for three centuries. He was afraid to open his heart to anyone as he felt he would be betraying his dead wife’s memory. As such when he found himself drawn to Alexis on both a physical and emotional level he was flabbergasted. How is it possible that he could feel this way seeing that his mate had died? When vampires mated, they did so for life so there is no way Alexis could be his mate.

The story was entertaining, fast paced, action packed and humorous with a few twists thrown in the midst. The romance is steamy. The attraction was instantaneous, but they both had to fight for their happily ever after. Alexis and Luke both had their demons to contend with, as such they both fought their feelings. However, love is so powerful it can overcome any obstacles. They provided the perfect balance for each other. They worked well together in the fight against their enemies. There were times when I wanted to knock some sense into Luke. One minute he is caught up in his feelings for Alexis and then when he realises he is forgetting his wife as a result he pulls away.

Verdict: This was a fun story with wonderful characters and an entertaining plot. If you enjoy paranormal romance and looking for a unique story that is filled with action, suspense and humour then you will enjoy this installment.
