Top 5 Romance Heroes

Whenever I’m asked to think about my favorite romance heroes from movies, the number one that always comes to mind is of course Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice. So, let’s all just assume that he’s everyone’s favorite (he is right?) and give credit to five different heroes who deserve a little love for their efforts. I think it goes without saying that Mr. Darcy set an impossibly high standard for most romantic heroes to meet…but these five certainly give it their best shot!

Starting at number 5 is Jack Callaghan from While You Were Sleeping. This hero played by Bill Pullman is handsome, sweet, slightly suspicious of the heroine (who is supposedly engaged to his brother) and just awkward enough to make him charming. I love a holiday romance story and this one has to be an all-time favorite and the hero plays a big part in that. I love the conflict he faces when he finds himself in love with his brother’s fiancé and has no idea what to do about it. A lovesick hero is definitely on my top picks list.

At number 4 is George Wade from Two Weeks Notice. Played by one of my favorite actors, Hugh Grant, this rich, successful, helpless bachelor is so much fun. A man who can’t make up his mind about basic things in life such as which mattress to buy but then comes through in the end to go after the one thing he is sure he wants (the heroine) is definitely irresistible in my books. And I’m pretty sure my infatuation with this one also stems from the fact that Hugh Grant is ridiculously hot.

Coming in at number 3 is Thomas Bailey from Made of Honor. Two words-Patrick Dempsey. Yum. I love this friends to lovers trope and I especially love that moment when a hero realizes he is in love with his best friend. As in most stories like this one, he has no idea what to do with these sudden feelings that had probably be long repressed or unacknowledged-we all know how hard it is to climb out of the ‘Friends Zone’ once we are there. And of course, he makes all kinds of mistakes in getting the girl, but we love him for trying so hard.

Number 2 is a different Darcy. Mark Darcy from Bridget Jones’ Diary. Colin Firth in this movie plays the brooding hero perfectly. He is flawed and tormented, but sincere and strong. And let’s face it, who doesn’t appreciate a man who can handle our unique kind of crazy? I love the love triangle in this movie and the way he stands up for the woman he loves. Sigh.

And finally, my number 1 pick is Andrew Paxton from The Proposal. Seeing Ryan Reynolds shirtless might have something to do with it, I’ll admit. But beyond that-the guy is going home for his grandmother’s birthday! How awesome is that? My favorite thing about him though is the way he fights with her throughout the movie and then for her at the end. A fake fiancé story at it’s best!

So, that’s my list. Looking at it, I realize that Sandra Bullock was the heroine in three of the five- what a lucky lady! I’m a little (a lot) jealous. To be entered in my giveaway, please tell me “Who is your favorite romance hero?”

My favorite romance hero in a movie would be Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing.

My favorite romance hero in a book is hard to pinpoint since I have so many and read so much.
Too name a few would be Jonny Blaze and Shane Stryker from Susan Mallery’s Fool’s Gold Series. I would also have to include Angus McKettrick from Linda Lael Miller’s McKettrick series and Noah Parks from your Brookhollow series.

    Thanks for sharing.

My favorite romance hero in a movie is Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre. Toby Stephens plays the role perfectly. He is the epitome of a strong male both in the book and the movie. I wonder where all the men are. Real men. Like Bogie and many of those.

  3. Artemis Giote says:

Noah Calhoun in ‘The Notebook’. Those ice-cream kisses, kisses in the rain and boat rides made your heart melt. Most of all be because Noah is a strong, sensitive hero who shows undying devotion to his love of a lifetime.

  4. Johnnie-Marie Howard says:

would have to be Rhet from Gone with the Wind, No matter what he always knew what he wanted and went after what he wanted. He was strong caring and always had a hint of mystery to him.

  5. Mary Preston says:

Has to be Col. Brandon, aka Alan Rickman. Such a Gentleman. I’d take him without hesitation.

  6. From a movie, I would say Noah from The Notebook. From a book… ah too many to list! One that stood out to me is Finn from All Our Yesterdays. Major swoon!
