A willful heiress is taken in hand when her guardian, the disgraced Earl of Endale, returns from abroad to find her a husband and launch her into society. With a reputation as dark as his allure, she finds his discipline both exotic and exciting. To her delight, his instruction includes strict and detailed attention to pleasure. She’s fiercely attracted, but when he probes her past, she soon vows to resist. Her heart lies elsewhere, and she means to marry handsome Sir Nigel, her clean-living neighbor and friend. But to her dismay, she finds Sir Nigel has doubts. He suspects her untamed sexuality is due to the Earl’s evil influence. Concerned for her safety and her status, Sir Nigel insists she must be tamed and warns she risks losing both his love and her place in society. He attempts a bold rescue, but now she must choose—respectability or a life of delicious sin?

Review:  A traditional story of an English debutante might feature a lovely simpering miss with very little knowledge of what goes on between a man and a woman. Author Flora Dain bucks tradition with Taming Saffina, the first installment of the Suiting Saffina series.

If anything, the title should give a fairly accurate clue that young Saffina is a bit unusual. What sets this story apart from a typical Barbara Cartland sweet time period romance is that Saffina is very much in tune with a desire for pleasure…and not the kind that comes from sitting quietly in a drawing room with admirers.

While this story might not be considered a literary masterpiece in terms of depth of the storyline, the author delivers a delightfully naughty read full of unexpected twists as Saffina gets an education at the hands of her guardian. The Earl dishes out some truly interesting punishments, introducing Saffina to elements of the BDSM lifestyle.

With a governess who is only too comfortable doling out punishment and a potential suitor who is leery of Saffina’s behavior, the characters keep the action rolling. As the story proceeds, it soon becomes clear that all is not quite as it appears.

Packed with some sizzling scenes as the Earl educates Saffina in worldly pleasure, the chemistry between the two is evident. However, thanks to a tidy cliffhanger, the author sets the stage for the next installment. Will Saffina tame her wild desires and take her place in society?
