Guest & Contest: Julie Ann Walker

Hi everyone!  Julie Ann Walker here, tickled pink to be back on Romancing the Book and talking about my upcoming title, the eight in the Black Knights Inc. series, TOO HARD TO HANDLE.

Now, we all know what to expect in a romantic suspense novel, right?  There will be action and adventure, daring and danger, romance and sssssteamy sexy times.  And red-hot alpha men who have really big…  Guns!  I was going to say “guns”, I swear!  *wink*  But what doesn’t immediately come to mind when the phrase “romantic suspense” gets bandied about are the kickbutt women between the covers of the books.  And I’m here today, standing proud and saying loud that “I LOVE A BADASS BROAD!”

Which is probably why I write them.

All my heroines, despite their occupations, backgrounds, or personal histories, have a strength that is unique to them.  One that compliments the strength of the hero in the story.  And one that gives them spines forged of white hot alloyed steel.

Take Penelope “Penni” DePaul from TOO HARD TO HANDLE.  She’s a Secret Service agent who puts her life on the line.  A bullet catcher of rare courage who can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with any man or go toe-to-toe with him, depending on what the situation calls for.  I just adore her. Especially because she doesn’t confuse being badass with being ultra masculine.  Even though she can scoot and shoot with the best of them, she’ll still all woman.  Sweet, warm, funny, and caring, she’s not afraid to show her sensitive side.  Which the hero in the book, Dan “The Man” Currington definitely needs since he’s battling more than one or two demons.  A widower and a recovering alcoholic who is desperately trying to put his life back together, Dan needs someone who knows when to kick his ass and, alternately, when to kiss his mouth.  You can bet your bippy he finds his match in Penni.  Of course, the road to their happily-ever-after is filled with potholes and a few twists and turns — just as it should be.  But their journey is well worth the ride, I guarantee!

Read on for a short excerpt that shows just how awesome Secret Service Agent, Penelope Ann DePaul really is:

“Hang on, Penni! I’m coming!”

Hang on? Forget about it.

In what world was she the damsel in distress who waited to be rescued by the white knight…er…in this case, the Black Knight?

Channeling all her fear and adrenaline, and ignoring the way her brain was buzzing from lack of oxygen—blue really wasn’t her color—she dug her nails into Kozlov’s forearm and tried to yank it down at the same time she brought her knee up. Hard. Aiming for his wedding tackle with enough force to ensure he wouldn’t be procreating any time soon.

it keeps me interested and wanting to read more and not put the book down. Love this series, cant wait for this one to be released

  2. My favorite thing about romantic suspense is the intensity of all the emotions – I feel like this makes the fast-action romance believable. I also love the hero protecting the heroine (and vice versa!).

  3. Brenda H. says:

I love the action combined with the romance–it’s a great way to show a couple in a situation where their true personality can come out with no games. Who can play games or pretend when they’re fighting for their lives? Plus I love the fast pace of romantic suspense.

  4. Other than the appliances and the food, nothing takes up more
room in the average kitchen than the cookware. Four Dinner Plates one of
each pattern: Leaves, Letters, Links and Circuit. With its
classic taste, “Melograno” is an italian kitchen that is designed to
get a great success in America, a market where Traditional taste its
always on and Transitional is becoming day by day a new
    exclusive trend.
