Kat’s boss wants dirt on the NSO. She is sent to Homeland undercover but everything goes wrong as soon as she enters the front gates. She is arrested by a big, powerful, sexy New Species but she is not frightened. He turns her on and things heat up fast between them. Now, she just hopes he doesn’t break her heart.

Darkness admires Kat’s courage but he cannot trust anything she says. He hasn’t been with a female for years because he knows he is too damaged. He is not mate material, despite his desire to possess her in every way. Darkness fears losing control—the one thing that defines his life. He doesn’t think he can tear down the protective walls he’s built, even for her.

Review:  Wow.  This book was a sleeper for me.  I was not expecting much when I picked it up but I was hooked from the get go.  Told from the point of view of the two main characters Kat and Darkness they take us on their journey of how they found each other.

The plot was reveled in the beginning of the story and was clean and to the point or so I thought.  The author did through in a couple of twists and turns to keep me on my toes.  The detail that the author provided was perfect and helped to let the reader clearly see the world that she had created for this novel.

It is clear to see that there is an instant attraction between Kat and Darkness but as with most Alpha romance books he is too stubborn to admit how he feels.  The nice twist that I enjoyed with this book is that the female lead is just as stubborn as the male.  It makes the relationship between the two characters that much more interesting.

Darkness is part of the New Species series written by Laurann Dohner.  This is book 12 of a 13 book (at this time) series but the books can be read as stand alone but the author recommends to read them in order to get the most enjoyment out of the series.  They are very easy to get into without knowing the backstories.  This is the first book that I have read in the series and I had no issues following along at all.

For me this book was full of surprises from the plot to the character development.  It was a good read that I thoroughly enjoyed.  In fact I am going to now start the series from the beginning I enjoyed this book that much.  With that said I give Darkness a 4 rose rating.
