Jen: Today we welcome Jessie Evans to Romancing the Book as her blog tour makes a stop with us. Jessie, will you share a short bio with us?
Jessie: New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary Southern romances she loves to read.
She’s married to the man of her dreams, and together they’re raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.
When she’s not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.
Jen: Please tell us about your newest release and where the idea came from.
Jessie: The HOT TEXAS DAYS BOX SET contains the first three books in my Lonesome Point Texas series, featuring hot alpha cowboys and the women tough enough to tame them. When I started the Lonesome Point series I wanted to write tough, rugged men who had hearts of gold and knew how to treat a lady. There is nothing sexier than a man who is strong in body, heart, and spirit and my Lonesome Point boys are all three!
Jen: Do you have a writing routine?
Jessie: I do! Since the day I started writing with an eye to being published ten years ago I have written at least 2000 words almost every single day. I figured the only way to be a better writer was to keep writing. Now, on a good work day, I can usually write 4-5000 words I’m happy with.
Jen: How do you remember ideas that come to you at odd times?
Jessie: When I was younger, I held them in my head. Now, I write that shizz down. Immediately. I have so much going on with my kids getting older and other responsibilities. If I don’t write an idea down ASAP it will escape me and then I’ll be stabby about it for a few days. I hate losing a good idea, lol!
Jen: What kind of research did you do for this book?
Jessie: I grew up riding horses, but I still did research on horseback riding, horse behavior, and horse training. I researched ranching practices and modern techniques for making ranches more productive. I also researched ghost town restoration, stalker psychology, penalties for drunk driving, professional baseball, and armadillos. I have a very strange search history.
Jen: Do you have a favorite character or one you most identify with?
Jessie: Mia, the main character in Leather and Lace (the first book in the box set) is a woman who never completely grew up. She still likes to be silly with her friends, pull harmless pranks, and find new ways to make her sleepy town wake up. I’m not into pranks, but I am unrepentantly silly and love to get up to silly fun with my family.
Jen: What’s the most interesting comment you’ve received about your books?
Jessie: A lot of my readers say they want to live in Lonesome Point. That makes me so happy because that means they’ve fallen in love with my characters and this place where people love and support each other.
Jen: What’s next for you?
Jessie: I’m finishing up the Lonesome Point series with books five and six and then moving on to a three-book bodyguard series. I love writing about protective men and am excited to delve more deeply into romantic suspense in the next series.
