Rancher Cooper Thorne thinks his life is finally on an even keel-until Delta Dandridge steps off the stagecoach and claims she’s his mail order bride. Brash and quick-witted, the meddling Southern Belle is everything Cooper thought he never wanted…and everything his heart is telling him he needs.
But Cooper swore long ago that he’d never marry, and he aims to keep his word, especially now that the demons from his past have returned to threaten everything-and everyone-he holds dear…
Review: I fell in love with the characters of this books. They were so full of life and different than most historical characters. Delta was by far one of the strongest female characters I have read in a historical novel in a long time, if not ever. She was smart, confident, loyal and honest. Battle Creek was a strange town for her but she made it her own. She never backed down and worked tirelessly to make the town better for everyone that lived there.
Cooper was a man with deep convictions and a strong loyalty for his two brothers. He adopted a young woman and her son and took care of them. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family and those in his charge. He was not ready for someone like Delta to enter into his life like a tornado. He wanted to be a bachelor for life. But could Delta change his mind?
The secondary characters were just as great as Cooper and Delta. They were one huge team that helped each other and made sure everyone was out of danger. I cannot wait to read about Rand and Brett’s love stories. I love to read how strong single men are brought down by equally strong women. Broday just may be my new favorite historical romance author. She writes in such a way that the characters don’t seem stuffy or from a long ago era. I could easily be friends with Delta today.
