Playlist & Contest: Julie Ann Walker

Music and the Muse! by Julie Ann Walker< Everyone who has ever read one of my Black Knights Inc. books knows that I have mad lurv for music. All music. Rock, pop, country, alternative, classical. You name it, I reference it, allude to it, include it, venerate it, eviscerate it, and just about any other combination you can think of. In fact, in my personal life I'm known to quote movie lines and song lyrics daily - and to the utmost annoyance of friends and family. LOL! My husband once mused, "Just think what you could have accomplished - the cure for cancer, manned interstellar space flight - if 90% of your brain wasn't taken up by song lyrics!" My current title, FULL THROTTLE, is no different when it comes to the inclusion of musical references. And to get myself “in the mood” for penning a story about a hot hero, a second chance love, and a mad dash through the jungle, I composed the following playlist. Enjoy! I know I did!

Jungle inspiration songs…
1) Welcome To The Jungle by Guns N’ Roses
2) Jungle Love by The Steve Miller Band
3) Run Through The Jungle by Creedence Clearwater Revival
4) Bungle In The Jungle by Jethro Tull

Second-chance love inspiration songs…
1) Not Over You by Gavin DeGraw
2.) Wait For You by Elliot Yamin
3) Not A Day Goes By by Lonestar
4) Come A Little Closer by Dierks Bentley

Thank you so much for having me on Romancing the Book. It was a blast!

Abby Thompson didn’t sign up to be the daughter of the President of the United States. The position was forced on her by the small matter of her birth. Preferring a quiet life of study, she’s content to leave the politics and the international intrigue to her father. Unfortunately, the most powerful man on the planet is sure to make enemies. When a group of armed thugs takes her hostage half a world away, demanding the U.S. government release prisoners in exchange for her safe return, she fears her father’s policy of “not negotiating with terrorists” means she’ll never see the shores of the Potomac again. Luckily, there’s one glimmer of hope. His name is Carlos Soto. And though she abruptly ended things with him years ago, she knows now he’s the only man who can save her…

Carlos “Steady” Soto has taken part in his fair share of dangerous missions working at the covert government defense firm of Black Knights Inc. But nothing prepared him for the emotional rollercoaster he faces when he’s tasked with rescuing the only woman he ever loved-who also broke his heart. Racing against time and outmaneuvering a group of trained terrorists will take everything he’s got. Plus there’s the heat simmering between them which is threatening to ignite into an inferno. While ruthless enemies stalk them, they must learn to trust each other again. Even if they do make it out alive, will Abby turn her back on him… for the second time?

I love that you include some kind of musical reference in all your stories. It helps set the mood. Every song included on this playlist is awesome, as I’m sure the book will be. I haven’t read a book of yours I didn’t like. I love your quirky sense of humor, your writing style, and your music choices!!

  2. Kim Tucker says:

Hmmm…jungle and second chances. Seems to me that Steady is going to need more than “Me Tarzan, you Jane” to win his lady love. Can’t wait to find out how he does it!

  3. Christina says:

I love all your books and can’t wait for this one not to mention your playlist is awsome. I was totally humming the words to a few songs at work and had to explain to a few nurses as to why. Good news is I gave a great plug for this series.

  4. Casie B. says:

I absolutely love this series! Nothing better then books about hot guys and music, I love all kinds as well from Rock to Country.

  5. Sue Peace says:

Songs can sure set a scene! Do you ever find the music distracting? I’m looking forward to your next book!

    • Well, I never listen to music while I write. For that, I need total silence. But any other time during the day – doing laundry, going to the gym, cooking dinner – I ALWAYS have music on.

  6. Lisa Guertin says:

I enjoy your books so much and it’s interesting to see your play lists. I’ve been waiting for Steady’s story since book 2!

  7. Lori Cox says:

Love these songs! Have you ever had a character or story inspired directly from a song? Keep ’em coming, sweetpea! They’re great!!

  8. Michele H. says:

Love this series!!! Love the songs you listened to while writing Full Throttle, was your playlist similar for the past books? How many more books do you think you will be writing in this series? Do you plans for a new series?

    • Wow! That’s a lot of questions. LOL! Let me take them in order. My playlist is different for every book I write. There will be a minimum of 12 books total in the BKI series. And I DO have a new series coming out next year. It’s called The Deep SIx series, and there’s even more action and sexy times than BKI! Whew! *fans self*

I’m definitely going to have to keep that list of songs and play them if/when I get a chance to read this book 😉 Congrats to Julie on her newest release! This series sounds awesome and I’m looking forward to jumping in!

  10. Jami Birnbaum says:

Love your books and I’m sure Full Throttle won’t be any different. Between second chances and a steamy jungle, sounds like just what the doctor ordered…

  11. Diane Sallans says:

Music can really effect my mood, so I understand why authors use it while they right – I used to listen to music while I wrote computer programs, it helped my typing!

  12. Stephanie F. says:

It is always intriguing to see what songs inspire authors, allows me to get a little into their heads. Welcome to the Jungle, love that song. Could definitely see that as a good inspiration song for the series, fits the men. Can’t wait to read this one with its play on Romancing the Stone, hot jungle, hot man and hot romance, I am hooked. Can’t wait to read.

  13. Pam Batchelor says:

I love a lot of these songs. It’s amazing that you can hear these and use them for a creative muse! I love this series and I love the fact that each character has their own story while they are all still tied together. It’s not the same story over and over with different characters.!!

  14. Carol L says:
