Jen: Today we welcome Sandy James to Romancing the Book. Sandy, will you share a short bio with us?
Sandy: I live in a suburb of Indianapolis with Jeff, my husband of thirty-one years. My nest is empty now since both of my children have grown up and married, but I do have a new grandson—John. He is the light of my life! To pay the mortgage, I teach high school social studies, mostly psychology with an occasional class in United States history.
Jen: Please tell us about your newest release and where the idea came from.
Sandy: My November 4th release is Sealing the Deal, Ladies Who Lunch Book 3. As far as where the idea came from, my only answer is my imagination! The series is loosely based on my own group of lunch friends, but when I fleshed out the characters for the books, they weren’t based solely on those friends. Beth and Robert were personalities that I created because they both felt very real, very grounded to me. I also like writing older characters, and with Beth in her mid-thirties and Robert hitting the big 4-0, they were so much fun to write!
Jen: Heels or flats?
Sandy: Flats! I’m glad I’m past the age where I have to worry about high heels. At fifty-one, no one cares what I wear on my feet anymore.
Jen: Do you have any writing rituals?
Sandy: I have to have something going in the background—the television or music. One of my favorite rituals has ended, though. My beloved schnauzer used to also sleep at my side as I wrote. He passed away in August, and my heart still hurts. I miss him every single time I sit down to write.
Jen: Favorite genre to read.
Sandy: I prefer historical romance, especially Scottish romances.
Jen: Most surprising item on your bucket list?
Sandy: Surprising? To me, my family, or my readers? Um… I want to sing the National Anthem at some sporting event.
Jen: What do you collect?
Sandy: Mostly weight on my thighs. I don’t truly collect anything, except perhaps books.
Jen: Are you handy? crafty?
Sandy: I can be when forced to do so. More handy than crafty. You need a new toilet put in? I’m your lady!
Jen: Song that you put on replay.
Sandy: You Don’t Know Me by Micheal Bublé
Jen: Favorite room in your house?
Sandy: The great room. Love the brick fireplace and comfortable chairs.
Jen: Favorite holiday.
Sandy: Any holiday where school isn’t in session!
Jen: Describe an ideal date.
Sandy: A movie. Popcorn. Twizzlers. And my hubby holding my hand.
Jen: Do you believe in love at first sight?
Sandy: Absolutely! That’s how I ended up with my husband!
Jen: What’s next for you?
Sandy: My head is swimming with ideas. At the moment, my main project is a new romantic suspense series that concerns the hunt for a serial killer. Since readers have been begging me for a fourth book in my Old West Safe Havens series, that’s also on my “to do” list. I also have several ideas for more contemporary romances like my Ladies Who Lunch as well as a sci-fi romance series and a new urban fantasy series. Phew. My brain just never slows down.
