“You have to go. I won’t be able to control myself. I’ve wanted you so bad for so long and after I’ve been in the cage…I can’t think straight.” He gives a guttural groan and his fist clenches on my hip.

Primitive. Primal. His need speaks to me. I tighten my grip on his neck and rock up to kiss him. He takes over. His kiss is hard and demanding.

“Mine.” His voice is raw, savage and for a moment I truly believe he may lose control.

He rules in the ring

Two years ago, Jake and Amanda were going hot and heavy. But when Jake wanted more, Amanda walked away. Jake immersed himself in mixed martial arts, living life on the edge. But that didn’t dull the pain of Amanda’s rejection-until a chance encounter throws them together.

A high-powered lawyer, Amanda was a no-strings-attached kind of girl. But two years after her breakup with Jake, she still hasn’t found anyone who gets her heart pumping the way he did. And then he shows up in her boardroom, hot as sin and needing help…

But can he rule her heart?

Jake is darker, sexier, and impossible to resist. As their chemistry builds, Amanda’s not sure if she can stay in control, or if she’s finally willing to let him claim her body and soul.

Review: I was first introduced to Amanda Westwood and Jake Donovan in Against the Ropes. I was not impressed with Amanda at that stage and as such when it came time for me to read her story I must admit I began this story with a preconceived notion. Initially I thought Amanda was selfish and superficial, even so, as the story moved on my initial assessment changed. It became obvious why Amanda behaved the way she did.

Amanda had an independent streak that is a mile long. She had abandonment and trust issues which led her to seek love in all the wrong places. She has a phobia when it came to commitment which led to her breaking up with Jake two years ago.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Jake came back into her life and it’s quite obvious that their feelings for each other had not changed. Jake was determined to keep Amanda in his life, no matter what it takes. The only obstacle was Amanda herself.

What fascinated me about Amanda is that she is a woman who did not depend on anyone to fight her battles. She knew what she wanted and was not afraid to go after it. She was not the type to back down from a conflict and she is not easily intimidated. She had a kind heart and was always willing to give a helping hand. However, because she was someone who feels she always has to in control of every situation in her life she became an emotional cripple. This contributed to her pushing away people who cared about her.

Jake on the other hand is the complete opposite. He too had experienced pain in his past, but he did not allow it to determine how he lived his life. He was willing to give Amanda a second chance, hoping that she would eventually come to trust him.

The interaction between these two was conflicting at times. One minute they were hot for each other and the next moment they were cold and distant. It was good to finally see them getting their act together. The love scenes were scorching hot and sweet. These two literally burnt up the pages.

I loved he secondary characters. They added to the entertainment value of the story. I found their antics to be amusing and entertaining.

In Your Corner is filled with enough drama, romance and totally hot sex to keep readers entertained. It’s a story of love, healing and forgiveness. This is a story that depicts how the power of love can heal the pain of the past. The story touched on several real life issues such as domestic violence and sexual harassment in the workplace.

This is a very compelling read that will pull you in and have you rooting for Jake and Amanda in their quest for their happily ever after.
