Elena avoids relationships by using her flogger as a shield. Alex is struggling with substance abuse and Elena will do nearly anything to help him conquer his demons, even risk losing him forever. When he comes home, whole and healthy, he raises the stakes by requesting their friendship turn into a D/s bond. His submission will change their dynamic forever. She convinces herself it’s just sex. Love and desire aren’t part of the equation.
Under Elena’s reverent command, Alex finds a comfort he’s always yearned for. He’s happier than ever as he spends his days slinging coffee and his nights bound and collared. Submitting to Elena exposes more than his strengths—it reveals a powerful attraction. Most of all, it uncovers their passionate love. He’s ready to convince her there’s no reason to mask her feelings, but his efforts are derailed when his toxic past resurfaces to annihilate their future.
Review: Elena has always considered Alex as part of her family, but when the relationship dynamic tilts, it makes her more aware of him as a man. She’s determined, though, to tamp down her feelings of attraction.
Alex has gone through some devastating challenges in his life. As part of his recovery, he turns to Elena to explore his submissive side. Elena doesn’t mind dishing out a mix of pain and pleasure, as long as her heart remains intact.
It’s not common to find a storyline with a submissive male and a female Domme, but Sara Brookes successfully explores this element in Break Me In. The relationship between Elena and Alex, while geared more toward being therapeutic in nature, soon rages out of control.
Until Alex is able to confront the ghosts of his past, however, he will not be free to explore a future with Elena. This journey is painful, but the author does an excellent job conveying the emotional battle.
Elena is a strong character who understands the dynamics behind the BDSM lifestyle. Because of this, she is able to interact well with Alex. There’s plenty of chemistry between the two, made even more exciting as their relationship deepens.
There’s even some drama courtesy of Alex’s ex-wife, which provides a dynamic twist. This is a series to add to the TBR list.
