New York Times bestselling sensation Susan Mallery returns to Fool’s Gold, California, where it’s true that sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs…
Former pro-football kicker Sam Ridge has notoriously bad luck with women—from cheaters to fame chasers. Still, the gorgeous brunette at the bar in Fool’s Gold looks harmless—until she takes him home and he discovers a room devoted to securing a man, for life.
Dellina Hopkins never guessed that storing gowns from a friend’s bridal boutique would chase away her first and only fling. After her parents died, she skipped her “wild youth” to raise her sisters. She doesn’t want forever from Sam, but one night—all night—would’ve been nice.
His clean getaway gets messy when his firm hires Dellina to plan an event. As long hours lead to late nights, the two succumb to temptation again. Has Sam’s luck finally changed? Or this time, will Dellina be the one to run?
Review: It was nice to be back in Fool’s Gold once again but this wasn’t my favorite book of the series by far. I enjoyed being reunited with characters we’ve grown to love – Mayor Marsha, Angel, Chloe, Jo, Patience, Taryn, Sam, Jack and Kenny amongst others. I didn’t like Sam’s parents and their role in the story since it had too much of an ick factor for me and Sam’s ex-wife Simone was only interested in what was good for her and couldn’t leave fast enough when she didn’t get her way. The characters didn’t seem as fully developed in this story as they have been in others in the series.
There was laughter, happiness, fear, tears, sorrow, sadness, lots of hard work and a great weekend planned for Score’s clients by Dellina. It was nice to see Sam give back to the community with his finance lectures which evolved after helping Dellina solve some of her accounting issues. There were enough loose ends to the various stories to know that we’ll be back again in Fool’s Gold to read Jack and Kenny’s stories as well as Kipling’s and the search and rescue group yet to be formed.
Susan Mallery is still one of my favorite authors whether we’re in Fool’s Gold, on Blackberry Island or Mischief Bay amongst other locales. Give her books a try. You’ll be glad you did!
Favorite Quote: Sam smiled. “You’re right. We don’t. I told her that if she really loved the man in question, she had to be honest. Which is why I’m here today. To be honest with the woman I love.”
