When Sapphire Jewel turns to him on the final evening he’s assigned to protect her, ex-Army Ranger and security expert Jake Knight sweeps her into bed. His personality and his profession have shaped him into a man who needs to be in control of all aspects of his life, especially in the bedroom. He’s not into the whole dominant/submission BDSM thing, but he does need to be the dominant force when it comes to physical relationships. Fearing his sexual demands are too much for Sapphire to handle, Jake does the only thing he can to protect her—he leaves her.

Sapphire is in love with her bodyguard. One night of intense, passionate sex has him running for the door and she doesn’t know why. When Jake unexpectedly shows up in her life again, she must decide if she can live with the sexual demands he’ll make of her. But most of all, she must decide if she can once again risk her heart.

Review:  After being rejected following a night of passion with her bodyguard, Sapphire Jewel decides it is time to reinvent herself to prevent ever being rejected again. Unfortunately, the party girl persona lands her in a bit of trouble when she catches the eye of an unsavory suitor who refuses to take no for an answer. Her former bodyguard, Jake Knight, steps back into her life to intervene, this time ready to stake a permanent claim.

As the eighth installment in the Awakening Desires series, author N.J. Walters has provided an intriguing story line for Sapphire Jewel. The Jewel sisters are all very strong characters. With A Stroke of Sapphire, it is Sapphire’s turn to meet her match.

The chemistry between Jake and Sapphire is unmistakable, with the author providing plenty of sizzling heat to show their strong connection. The element of suspense in the form of the persistent suitor is well integrated into the story line.

Tough, yet tender, Jake steals the book as he begins to understand that his Sapphire is no wilting flower, and that she can take everything he is willing to give her.
