Lisa Mankiller is spending her pre-deployment leave at the ranch of neighbors when she meets Todd Lawson, a city boy, friend, and lover, of Jake Winthrop, someone she’d not seen since departing for Navy Corpsman school years before. Witnessing how abusive Jake has become, Lisa works to rescue Todd, unaware that her heart has other plans. The Navy is sending her to sea for a year. Will someone be waiting for her when she returns?

Review: I picked this book as something outside my normal reading realm of contemporary romances and found myself out of my comfort level. As I started reading the novella, I enjoyed the beginning a lot.The writing was well done and I was able to follow the story, wanting to know more about Todd and Lisa’s relationship.

However as I continued reading, the harsh attitude of Jake, I felt myself squirming. I was squirming with feeling confusion of how I felt about this book, and I finished it with a weird feeling. I think it is because I don’t know how I felt with the topic of abuse and erotica, and to me an erotica is pure lust,  a hot attraction between the people, with romance thrown into it. I felt with this book, as I continue to read about Todd and Jake, Lisa joining them in their relationship, made me not like her because of what Jake was like. To me, anyone who abuses someone in a domestic relationship, isn’t a sexy topic in the book.

It may be just me, as this is my first new menage erotica, but getting rid of Todd right away in the relationship would have been a much better story. The relationship, and the sexy writing was well crafted, and I think making it a bit longer and the relationship focused on just Todd and Lisa, this erotica novella would have gotten a higher review.
