The escape of reading and writing.

The number one reason why readers love to read is for an escape. To be taken to another time, place, and world. To be sucked into a world of fantasy where anything is possible. And to be taking away from the stresses of life.

Those are all the reasons I love to read. They are also the reasons I love to write. Only with writing, I’m the creator of the worlds and characters. As a reader I love books that keep my attention. That’s the main reason I love paranormal so much. The suspense and tension is there from the first page to the last. I incorporate that love for suspense and tension into my writing. I also love pushing my creativity by doing different things. Like write a contemporary series. My new series, Pleasures of the Heart, is one of those new projects that challenges me to do something different.

One, it’s a contemporary series. Two, each book with the series will be a standalone. Three, it’s contemporary. The series is set in Long Beach, California and surrounds a group of people who are, in one way or another, connected to a business law firm.

Do you read (or write, or both) to escape? What’s your favorite type of story?

Business Pleasures by Lia Davis
Series: Pleasures of the Heart (# 1)
Genre: Erotic Contemporary
Heat level: 5 Flames

Aimee Monroe never considered dating her boss. She needs a new beginning, not a big mistake. However, when the handsome, business lawyer, Kenton McDonnell, ask her to a dinner date with a new client and his wife, she finds it hard to say no. After one incredible night with Kenton, her attempt for a fresh start is ripped away when she returns home to find her abusive ex-husband waiting for her.

Kenton has wanted Aimee since the day she walked into the interview. Now he has the chance to make her his and nothing or no one is going to stand in his way. Especially not the ex-husband newly released from prison who has revenge in his sights.

When he’d first saw her in the short black dress with the red lace wrap, he couldn’t find words.  The way her long black hair hung loose around her shoulders begged him to run his fingers through the silky strands.

Pulling into a parking space, he put his Lexus in park and turned off the engine. Damn it, he felt like he was in high school again.

He stepped out of the car and rushed around to the passenger side to open her door before Aimee could. He held out his hand and smiled when she took it and allowed him to tug her to a stand. “There’s one thing I have to do before we go inside.”

She tilted her head slightly and narrowed her gaze. “What’s that?”

He lowered his head and pressed his lips to hers. She stiffened for a moment, but when he brushed his tongue against the seam of her lips, she relaxed and opened for him. Their tongues tangled in an erotic dance as their mouths moved against each other. Aimee melted against him and he wanted to take her straight to his place so he could have her all to himself. The selfish side of him didn’t want to share her with his friends tonight.

Breaking the kiss, he stared into her green gaze and smiled. “That was hotter than I expected.”

She laughed. “You have away with words, Mr. Romantic.”

The corner of his mouth lifted. “Sorry…”

She pressed a finger to his lips, stopping him from swallowing his whole foot since he’d already stuck it in his mouth. “Shush. That’s what I admire must about you. You’re honest and don’t sugarcoat things. We should go inside. The Camptons are probably here already.”

He kissed her forehead and stepped back. “You’re right, as always.”

A night with a romance hero? This is a hard one. After a while of thinking, I’ll say King Arthur. He counts right? I figure I’ll spend the night listening to his tales.

  6. anne says:

I would like to spend the night with Patrick Stewart. Stimulating, educated, entertaining and above all a real man.
