Lily Dawson, dubbed the Countess of Charm by the Prince Regent himself, plays the role of the courtesan flawlessly while her real purpose is spying in the service of the Crown. Her mission now is to seduce a duke to test his true loyalties. She’ll do it, even though the man she really wants is Andrew Booth-Payne, Earl of Darlington—the duke’s son.
Andrew is furious when he finds himself rivaling his father for Lily’s attention. When he uncovers Lily’s mission, Andrew is faced with impossible choices. It seems he is destined to betray either his family, his country, or the longings of his own heart…
Review: Once in a while you come across an author who has a way of telling a story that grabs your attention leaving you wanting more. Ms. Galen is one of those authors as I can’t wait for new stories from her to come out. She has quickly become a favorite.
I think that this third installment of the ‘Jewels of the Ton’ series is my favorite. That if I had to choose between the three this would be my favorite… with Lily…her understated beauty and strength. Of the three women I found myself relating to Lily the closest. She has a many secrets that come out over time but have been kept where they should be in the past. Lily who is also referred to as the Countess of Charm is a spy for the crown. Her mission, to expose the traitor and murderer to the crown… Where to start? Simple… by using her (secret of being a courtesan) to her advantage; so she seduces a duke in hopes of uncovering the traitor. Enter the duke’s son Andrew. Someone from Lily’s past. The one she has loved forever but, he had his eye on Juliette one of the other jewels who is now happily married. Do I have your attention? Lily tries to deny or hide her attraction for Andrew while continuing her ruse of being attracted to his father to gain access to his home. As things heat up between Andrew and Lily secrets that have been hidden come to light. Thinking herself once unlovable and perhaps not as beautiful as Juliette or Fallon; Lily finds herself feeling loved and beautiful. This is one of the simple twists within the story that keeps you wanting to find out what happens, right?
They soon find themselves working closely together to find the truth. Because of this they soon discover or should I say Andrew discovers that his mere attraction for Lily is so much more.
The well written storyline leaves you wanting more. Ms. Galen as with her stories leaves the element of surprise up until the very end that makes you say “I never saw that coming.” Of course I can’t divulge that because I wouldn’t want to give away the whole story.
Once again I found myself simply mesmerized by Ms. Galen’s story from start to finish. I am also delighted that she left Lily’s story to the end, as Lily I think is my favorite. She is more real, more down to earth, and more in need of being shown that she is lovable and beautiful. Mistakes are made by everyone. Secrets are a part of what molds us. Without any of these we can’t become the people we are meant to be. Had she learned this lesson from the Earl and Countess of Sinclair years ago we wouldn’t have this wonderful story of Lily and Andrew’s love.
I hated to see the series come to end or perhaps we will find out how it all started with the Earl and Countess of Sinclair or as the Jewels refer to him so lovingly as the Earl of Sin.
Whether you read this by itself or as part of the series I feel that you won’t be disappointed and find yourself taken into a world of intrigue filled with spy’s and love.
You find that you will quite enjoy experiencing that Ahhhhh! Moment or I didn’t see that coming. A story that can stand alone but is lovely when complimented with the other two…When You Give a Duke a Diamond and If You Give a Rake a Ruby.
So grab you beverage of choice. Find that comfy spot and settle in for a story that will have you falling in love all over again.
