Guest & Contest: Cynthia D’Alba

Sex on the Beach??

Hi All! Cynthia D’Alba here. Mega thanks to Jenn for letting me guest post with her today to celebrate the release of the second book in the Texas Montgomery Mavericks Series. TEXAS TANGO is the story of Travis Montgomery (brother of Olivia, the heroine from Texas Two Step) and Dr. Caroline Graham.

Travis is a man with a troubled past. He lost his wife to breast cancer when they were only twenty-six. The Holmes-Rahe Life Stress Inventory from 1967 showed the #1 stressful life event is loss of a spouse. The study was repeated in 2001 and death of a spouse again ranked #1. Can you image having to face such an event at only twenty-six? He didn’t handle the death very well, losing himself at the bottom of a bottle. A year of his life was lost in a drunken stupor. TEXAS TANGO starts ten years later. Travis has been sober for ten years. Being around others drinking doesn’t bother him, and in fact, he’s an excellent bartender for family gatherings. The family game is, “Stump Travis.” The rules are to name an alcoholic drink he can’t make from memory.

Here’s an excerpt from the game…

Lydia slipped onto a barstool. “Hmm. How about a little Sex on the Beach?”

Travis’s smile widened, his white teeth gleaming. “Well, we aren’t that close to the ocean. Plus, the parents got rid of our sandbox years ago. And my brother might mind if I slept with his fiancée. But there is some grass in the yard that might work instead.” He held out his hand. “Now or later?”

Lydia laughed as she slapped his palm.

“Hands off, bro. She’s mine.” Jason wrapped a possessive arm around Lydia.

While Jason’s action might have been done in jest, a small dart of envy clipped Caroline. She wondered what it would be like to be someone’s special person.

Travis shrugged good-naturedly. “Her loss,” he said with a wink before bending below the bar to open the mini-refrigerator. He brought up cartons of orange juice and cranberry juice. Then he added peach schnapps and vodka from a lower shelf. After shaking the four ingredients with ice in a martini shaker, he poured the drink over ice in a highball glass and pushed it across the bar.

“Nice try, Lydia. Maybe next time.” He set an empty mason jar on the bar. “Pay up.”

I have never had Sex on the Beach…the drink, I mean. (hee hee) He also makes some delicious non-alcoholic drinks, like the Pink Flamingo. So I’m sharing that recipe with you…

Pink Flamingo
4 oz cranberry juice
2 oz pineapple juice
½ oz lemon juice
2 oz club soda

Fill a martini shaker half-full of ice. Add the cranberry, pineapple and lemon juices. Shake well, then strain into a highball glass. Add club soda and stir well. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Sounds yummy, huh? Share your favorite non-alcoholic drink recipe in the comments section. I loved to find some new ones.

Curious about TEXAS TANGO? Here a little more:
Texas Montgomery Mavericks, Book 2

Dr. Caroline Graham is happy with her nomadic lifestyle fulfilling short-term medical contracts. No emotional commitments, no disappointments. She’s always the one to walk away, never the one left behind. But now her great-uncle is gone and her grandmother is on her deathbed, more concerned about Caroline’s lack of a husband than her own demise. What’s the harm in a little white lie? If a wedding will give her grandmother peace, then a wedding she shall have.

Travis Montgomery has one dream left—to build the ranch he and his wife planned before he lost her to cancer. There’s just one thing standing between him and the last bit of acreage he needs—a last living heir who has one traveling foot out the door…and an unusual request that challenges his determination to never again place his heart at risk. The land he wants in exchange for a faux marriage. Everyone wins. Until things start to snowball…and the hearts they stand to lose are their own.

D'Alba RT BooksigningMaybe this is the first time you’ve run across me and you’re wondering who is this gal? Here’s a little about me: I was born and raised in a small Arkansas town. After being gone for a number of years, I’m thrilled to be making my home back in Arkansas living in a vine-covered cottage on the banks of an eight-thousand acre lake. I started writing on a challenge from my husband in 2006 and discovered having imaginary sex with lots of hunky men was fun.

My first book, Texas Two Step, released in 2012 to outstanding reviews, was a Samhain Publishing best seller. The second book in the Texas Montgomery Mavericks series, Texas Tango, released November 5, 2013, again from Samhain Publishing. In February, 2014, Texas Fandango, a Novella in the Texas Montgomery Series will be released by Samhain Publishing. I am currently at work on book 3 of the Texas Montgomery Mavericks series (Texas Twist).

  1. Ooh, must try the Pink Flamingo!
I have some homemade pomegranate liqueur in the fridge. There’s no exact recipe…I pour in about a third of pomegranate juice, a third of vodka, and a third of sugar water — then I play around until it tastes good 😉
    Happy release day
    cheers

As far as a drink recipe – I don’t really drink much in the way of alcohol these days but I like Trader’s Punch which is made with 2 cups of lemon juice, 2 cups of orange juice, 2 cups of grenadine syrup and 3 liters of Canada Dry ginger ale.

    Thanks for the giveaway!
