No one would have ever guessed that seniors Jessica Richardson and Amanda Shaw could ever have anything in common. The two girls attend the ultra-exclusive Porter Academy in Atlanta. Jessica is a beauty queen with a glamorous life and tons of money, clothes, and make-up. Amanda comes from a lower class home and is the “school nerd” at Porter. Well, we’re about to find out what happens when the two girls meet and their secret past is revealed to the world!

Review:  This is a Young Adult short story that was a quick read. I felt I got pulled back into high school with all the cliques and angst about dating and boyfriends, best friends, the Sadie Hawkins Dance, prom and applying to colleges. The only difference is that I didn’t go to prestigious school like Porter Academy and go to parties or locations that they did for senior skip day or the senior trip, go on elaborate shopping trips or to spa days. Putting the money aside they were normal teens with very normal problems, concerns and fears although many times without the parental support they often times needed. Jessica and Amanda both were pretty down to earth – one the Beauty Queen, who had a realistic head on her shoulders and the other the school nerd that lived a vastly different life. When their pasts caught up with them it seemed odd that they were both so accepting and were able to make the best of the situation.

I don’t usually read YA books although many of my friends do. This was a nicely told story that was kept clean throughout – no sex or cursing – which was nice to see. I could easily see this as a Disney type TV show or movie reminiscent to me of “The Suite Life, “Cory in the House” or even “Hannah Montana”. I would recommend this to others that like YA books especially middle schoolers and high schoolers.

Favorite Quote: She learned a very important lesson in life. She realized that what you do to others can come back to haunt you. And that is what high school and life is all about. It is about always being careful of your actions and how you treat others. In other words, karma will come back to you.
