Interview & Contest: Felicity Heaton

herwickedangel-booktourJen: Today we welcome Felicity Heaton as her blog tour makes a stop at Romancing the Book. Felicity, will you share a short bio with us?
Felicity: I’m a paranormal romance writer, although I do also dabble in science fiction romance. I’ve been writing since 2005, and went indie in 2006, before all the cool kids were doing it. I’ve written over forty-five books in my career as a writer, and around forty of those are still available. I love to write passionate paranormal romances, with high-octane action, intense emotion, and heroes who will make your toes curl!

At the moment, I have two major series on the go and one I completed this year, and I have another series about to begin in December. The completed series is the Vampire Erotic Theatre series, with the delicious heroes of Vampirerotique, London’s premier naughty theatre for vampires. The ongoing series are the Her Angel series with my take on sexy passionate angels determined to protect their women from a terrible game between Heaven and Hell, and the Vampires Realm series I write as F E Heaton, which is packed with twisting plots, vampires to die for, and is a huge world encompassing ten books at present.

Jen: Please tell us about your newest release and where the idea came from.
Felicity: Her Wicked Angel is the sixth book in my popular Her Angel paranormal romance series. It’s about Asmodeus, the wicked King of Demons and the Devil’s right hand man. He’s an angel born for destruction and evil, but beneath his cold and often cruel exterior there is a glimmer of good, a seed that he hides from his master and the three realms (Heaven, Hell and the Mortal realms) because in his world, good is a weakness.

When he is sent to the mortal world to retrieve a female for the Devil and sets eyes on the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, a woman who challenges him at every turn and seems to have a mystical power over him, that sliver of good begins to grow and he realizes that he can’t let his master have her… because he wants her for himself.

Liora is a witch and has always known that angels existed, but she never thought she would meet Asmodeus. The glowering dark angel warrior with his black wings and golden eyes makes her burn hotter than Hell itself and she can’t resist the fierce attraction that blazes between them. He’s dangerous and deadly… and he might just be her only hope for survival.

This story continues the series with the Devil making another play for power in the eternal game between Heaven and Hell.

Jen: How do you remember ideas that come to you at odd times?
Felicity: I always carry a note pad and pen with me wherever I go when I’m out and about in my daily life, and take them on holiday with me too, but sometimes the muse decides to provide me with inspiration with I don’t have them on hand. When that happens, I reach for my phone. My husband is quite used to me pausing in the middle of a beautiful square in a foreign city and whipping out my HTC smart phone and frantically typing down whatever is in my head. I swear he has the patience of a saint.

felicityheatonJen: What’s the most challenging aspect of writing? Easiest? Most rewarding?
Felicity: I’m coming to think that the most challenging aspect of writing is living up to readers’ expectations and handling that sort of pressure. I never want to let my readers down and want to deliver a book that will rock their world. It’s tough to make every book better than the previous one in the series, but I do my best.

The easiest and one of the most rewarding things for me is world building. I love to build big detailed worlds, ones that feel real to readers, populated with characters they can really feel for and understand, and have a connection with. The other rewarding thing is when readers comment or email me to let me know that they enjoyed my books and want to read more, or are gasping for the next book. That’s an amazing feeling.

Jen: Who are some of your favorite authors? What are you reading now?
Felicity: I love classic romance authors, such as Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen, and Elizabeth Gaskell, and also horror authors such as Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker, and H P Lovecraft. I do love reading paranormal romance novels too, and my go to authors are Lara Adrian, Gena Showalter and Sherrilyn Kenyon, but I also like books by Larissa Ione, Christine Feehan and Kresley Cole too.

I’m not reading anything right now because I’m writing and I never read while I’m writing, but the last book I read was Darker After Midnight by Lara Adrian. Loved it!

Jen: How do you come up with characters names?
Felicity: It’s a combination of methods. I have a growing list of names that I really like for male and female characters. Sometimes those are names I’ve looked up or found online, sometimes it’s a name I saw in the credits of a movie or TV program or in an article, and sometimes it’s a name that I’ve dreamed up. I really like dreaming up names, but don’t get to do it often.

And sometimes, characters come to me with their name already attached and I roll with it, because the character knows best.

Jen: What do you do in your free time?
Felicity: I’m really into drawing and watching anime and movies. I also love playing games on my PlayStation 3 or PS Vita. When I’m not lazing, I’m out practicing archery with my club. I’m crazy for archery, even though it can be very challenging at times.

Jen: What’s next for you?
Felicity: My next release is the first in a new series of novels I’m writing, called Eternal Mates. It’s set in the same world as the Vampire Erotic Theatre series that I completed in May this year. The Eternal Mates series is set in the wider world that the Vampirerotique theatre is only a tiny part of and features all kinds of paranormal species—from demons and witches, to dark elves, shifters, vampires and fae—as well as a demon hunting organization. I will be releasing the first book in the series, Kissed by a Dark Prince, in December 2013. I’m currently working on the first draft of the second book, Claimed by a Demon King.

Hey Felicity, I love all your books and think I have all of them on my Kindle, so now I want to purchase some Paperbacks ( not all in one go though)! Some of your older books are not on your store Website or Amazon, would there be a possibility that you would bring out these books (or re release them ) in the future? I would love to get hold of some of the older ones.

Your a Busy Bee in your Free Time too.

Felicity, If you take your favorite paranormal authors and add your name to it, you have my list of favorites. I am looking forward to reading the Eternal mates series, thanks for sharing it. Thanks for the giveaway. I was gonna ask you games you play on the Playstation, but then I realized I probably wouldn’t have a clue what you were talking about, my granddaughter and nephews each have one and I wouldn’t touch their games with a 100 foot pole. So I don’t know much about other games, the only I know are the old ones, like Spyro, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, Centipede and of course Pac-man.

It is really cool that you like archery. I took a class in college and LOVED it. Unfortunately I haven’t done much with it, maybe one day. Thank you for doing a blog tour. I learn so much from authors who do them.

Even though you have only been writing since 2005, it is amazing that you have already written over 45 books. Love the Her Angel paranormal series! I am looking forward to reading the new addition to the series. The Eternal Mates series also sounds fascinating and I have added it to my TBR list.
