The last person Olivia Hollingsworth expected to see at her Greenwich Village vampire club was her one true love, Doug Paxton—whom she believed to be dead for centuries. Olivia thought she had moved on, but when Doug reappears, her heart knows she’d rather die than lose him again.
Ever since Doug can remember, a red-haired siren has haunted his dreams. He never thought she could be real until he goes to investigate a murder at Olivia’s night club. However, as the bodies keep piling up at her feet, he must fight to prove her innocence—even if it costs him his life…
Review: When I first chose this book, I had no idea what to expect as this was my first time reading Sara Humphrey’s work. As I began reading I knew this was going to be a story that I was going to enjoy and I was right. It drew me in from the very first page and I had a hard time putting it down.
Tall, Dark and Vampire is a paranormal read that combines romance, action, mystery and suspense. This was a good read for me and I do believe that readers of paranormal romance would enjoy this story. It’s the first book in the Dead in the City series. I loved Ms. Humphrey’s portrayal of vampires which is somewhat different from the typical vampire reads that I have come across. There were vampires that were part demon and part angel. Vampires had their own government and newly turned vampires had to be registered. There was also the rule as to the amount of persons that a vampire could turn.
The characters were amazing. My favorite character is Olivia, who is the female lead in this story. She was a very self-reliant individual who had great personality and was not afraid to show her softer side. She cared deeply for the persons whom she took under her wing and was willing to do anything to protect them. She is a 300 year old vampire and the owner of a popular human night club. She was also the leader of a coven of vampires.
Olivia had experienced loss from an early age when she witnessed the murder of the love of her life. That very same night she was turned into a vampire. Since then she has lived a lonely life, not getting close to anyone. She found herself linked to her dead lover in her dreams which was rather strange as it was impossible for vampires to dream.
Unexpected and catastrophic events led police detective Doug Paxton to Olivia’s doorstep. Olivia received a shock when she noticed that he had an uncanny resemblance to her dead lover. Doug was equally shocked as he recognized her as the woman he had been dreaming about. How could this be? To find out you will have to read the story for yourself and when you do you may likely experience a OMG, how is this even possible moment, like I did.
This is a beautiful story of how love can transcend time. Tall, Dark and Vampire is fast paced, sizzling, on the edge of your seat read with non-stop action. It had a lot of twists and turns and it had me turning the pages as I had to know what was coming next. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this title and I am looking forward to the other books in the series.
