Anniversary Celebration: Interview & Contest with Bella Andre

Beautiful purple and gold fireworks in celebration of July 4th.

I first learned of Bella Andre when I won a copy of From This Moment On in a contest on LibraryThing. The book sat on my kindle for months before I finally sat down and read it. I was riveted from page one and quickly had to get my hands on the other books in the series. Since that day, Bella has become an auto-buy author for me and I’m thrilled she’s able to join us during our anniversary party.

Jen: You’ve had so much success with self-publishing, but being signed to Harlequin is a big deal.  Please tell us your call story.
Bella: Yes, working with Harlequin on the print side of my Sullivan books is a very big deal! I couldn’t be happier about working with them!

I self-published the Sullivan series as ebooks first and once three of the books hit the New York Times simultaneously many publishers contacted me to see if we could work together. I have always been a huge fan of the books Harlequin publishes and I believe they do contemporary romance better than any publisher on the planet. It was a thrill to sign the first ever print-only deal with Harlequin MIRA for my Sullivan series. They have extraordinary vision for how to reach print readers around the world.

Jen: Do you have a favorite scene in the series or The Look of Love?  Where did the inspiration come from?
Bella: I so enjoyed writing THE LOOK OF LOVE that while it’s hard to choose a favorite scene, I will admit that the bathtub scene in the early part of the book made me laugh out loud as I wrote it! Another scene that moved me was when Chase and Chloe took a picnic up to the a vineyard hilltop and have an important – and very sweet – conversation about their budding relationship. And, of course, I loved writing every part of their growing sensual connection. Plus, I love writing any scene where the Sullivan siblings get together. They’re so much fun to write as a group of unique personalities who always support and love each other no matter what.

Jen: If The Look of Love was made into a movie, who do you see as the main characters?
Bella: This is a favorite topic of discussion on my Facebook page! The current most popular choices for Chase & Chloe are Jake Gyllenhaal & Chloe: Summer Glau

Jen: What’s next for you?
Bella: I am currently finishing up Mary & Jack Sullivan’s love story. In KISSING UNDER THE MISTLETOE which will be out in October 2013 in Australia, we will go back in time to find out how they fell in love and started their amazing family. After that, because Sullivan fans around the world have embraced the series with so much enthusiasm, I am now working on the next five books about their cousins from Seattle, starting with Rafe Sullivan in THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT.

I have been wanting to read this series for quite awhile. Her books have gotten such great reviews on the blogs. I have probably at least 12 books on my TBR pile and if I get any more books before I finish them my sister will kill me. I am a book hoarder.
