Anniversary Celebration: Guest Post & Contest with Vicki Lewis Thompson

Beautiful purple and gold fireworks in celebration of July 4th.

CONSTANTLY CELEBRATING

Congratulations on your fifth anniversary, and I’m honored that Jen invited me to be here during your week-long party!  You couldn’t have asked anyone more devoted to celebrating than I am.  When I was a kid, I’d start decorating my room a good two weeks in advance of my birthday just in case anybody should happen to forget that it was coming up and attention must be paid!

I look for every excuse to celebrate.  Whatever your holiday or your special occasion, count me in.  When friends and I get together for a meal, I’m the one who proposes a toast to . . . whatever I dream up on the spur of the moment.  There’s always something worth toasting, right?  Even if it’s that we’re all above ground!

I believe in celebrating major events, but the small pleasures count, too – rain in the desert, a perfect tomato, a sale at Designer Shoe Warehouse.  That last one deserves a couple of balloons and some streamers.

Naturally I celebrate when a book comes out, which means this summer has been quite the party-fest.  There were three books in my Sons of Chance cowboy series — I CROSS MY HEART, WILD AT HEART, and THE HEART WON’T LIE.  In July WEREWOLF IN ALASKA showed up, and I also had three novellas in The Perfect Man series – ONE NIGHT WITH A BILLIONAIRE, TEMPTED BY A COWBOY, and SAFE IN HIS ARMS.

As if that weren’t enough, I’m bringing out my previously published Nerd series as ebooks, beginning this month with THE NERD WHO LOVED ME and NERDS LIKE IT HOT, both with dashing new covers.  More will follow in the fall, and I’m working on a new Nerd story to add to the bunch.

You’ve probably guessed that I write a lot, and that’s what makes celebrations even more important.  It’s easy to become so focused on the job at hand that we forget to look up and be grateful for stuff.  I think it’s extremely important to be grateful.  And I am.

What about you?  When was the last time you celebrated something dear to your heart?  Are you looking forward to a special event in the future?  Do tell!

The last time I celebrated was a reunion with family about a month ago. We had a great time and just enjoyed ourselves. The next upcoming celebration will probably be Halloween. A small party of some sort. Congrats on your 5th anniversary! And congrats on the upcoming book releases too. 🙂

  2. may says:

My mom’s bday is coming up. That’s always a good reason to get together and eat! 🙂

    Congrats on your books! 🙂

My last “big celebration” happened recently and it was seeing my 3 grandchildren who live in South Carolina! It had been almost a year since my last visit and I couldn’t believe how much they had grown.

Like many others our family seems to have spread out over the country and family get-togethers are few and far. Does anyone else remember when all your relatives lived in the same community and you had “pot luck” suppers and summer cook-outs weekly?

  4. My last big celebration wasn’t exactly a celebration to others but it was to me. My Dad passed away in September of 2009 and in Novenmber the whole family got together for dinner at my sister’s home. It was a celebration because the entire family was there and for the first times in years the whole gang was captures together on camera. The only sad note was that my Dad wasn’t a part of it. It was bittersweet. Thank you for this giveaway.

  5. Good morning! Or if you’re reading this from somewhere other than the US, then Good Whatever-It-Is!

Lady Vampire, I have a holiday tree beside my front door, and pretty soon I have to get the pumpkin lights and the bat ornaments out of storage, LOL.

Happy B-Day to your mom, May!

Jeanne, my family spread out early. My folks moved to Arizona which was far from Connecticut and Illinois where they were each from. Vacations were our only chance for that togetherness, and I loved it. Glad you got to see your grandkids!

Wanda, I think that counts as a celebration — a celebration of a life well-lived. I think it was a wonderful tribute to your dad that you all got together. And you’re welcome! I love giving away books!

Hi Vicki. First, I have to say I LOL over you celebrating a perfect tomato. 😀 The last thing I celebrated was my oldest son’s 18th birthday last week. I still don’t know where that time has gone.

The whole family is getting together at the beach in another week – can’t wait – and I’ll have my birthday while we are there!
Here’s to 5 years and many more to come!

  11. Joanne, it’s so special when you watch young adults starting out! Great reasons to celebrate. 🙂

Toni, I’m with you, on that. I’ll look for any excuse.

Emma, reunions are so cool! And thanks for reading my books. I’m going to celebrate that!

That was one lucky 21-year-old to have such a great celebration, Kathleen. What fun.

Marcy, I grew up in the Midwest where the tomatoes are awesome. Now I live in Arizona and they’re not quite so awesome, but the heirloom ones are the closest to what I remember a tomato tastes like, and I love me a perfect tomato, LOL! Congrats on your son’s 18th! I know what you mean — time flies.

Diane, Happy Birthday in a week! I can’t think of a better place to celebrate than at the beach.

  14. Happy upcoming B-Day, Laurie! I really do think life begins at 40, so enjoy!!

Gretchen, you just came up with another good thing about celebrations. You can add a celebration to something people aren’t looking forward to, and sweeten it up!

Good luck finding that present, Chelsea! You know she’ll love whatever you give her, but I understand wanting to find just the right thing. I go through that all the time!

Congrats. on your anniversary. I went to my 40th high school reunion last month. Right before a big birthday in 2005, there was a fire in my condo building and the building next door. We still had the party but it was a little more exciting than I thought. And wehae a friend of our family who does a lot for us so I have “Appreciation Days.” love the “Nerd” series.

  18. Barbara Elness says:

The last time I celebrated something dear to my heart was when I traveled to California to celebrate my 60th birthday with my two sisters and their families. I spent a week having fun, including Trick or Treating on Halloween and having pumpkin pie instead of cake. The next big thing I’m celebrating is going to California over Thanksgiving this year. It will be the first Thanksgiving in 9 years that I’ve spent with my older sister and her family. We’re going to spend it in a cabin in the mountains, so lots of visiting, rest and relaxation. 😀
