The Earl in My Bed, a Valentine novella from New York Times bestselling author Sophie Jordan, is a lively, sexy historical romance that bridges Lessons from a Scandalous Bride and the final installment of the popular Forgotten Princesses series.
All her life, everyone assumed Paget Ellsworth, the vicar’s daughter, would marry the Earl of Winningham’s youngest son. And when he left for war with his older brother, Jamie, words and promises were not necessary.
Four years pass and the death of his father forces Jamie home to take up the reins as the new earl, leaving his brother fighting on the front lines a world away. Maddening, infuriating, sexy Jamie makes her question her feelings. One glimpse, one word from him, awakens desire in her heart. When a simple kiss spirals out of control at the annual Valentine’s Day ball, she realizes the man she never wanted is the man she needs… Will Paget cast aside all she’s ever thought to be true to win the man of her dreams?
Review: Novellas always freak me out. I’m never sure if they are going to have enough substance to actually make a “whole” story or if I’m going to be disappointing.
I LOVE Sophie Jordan’s books so I was hoping that this one would be a success…
I’m shocked how easily she pulled it off! I think part of it had to do with the fact that she easily narrated the back story with Paget and the brothers. You knew straight away that Jamie was left out of things while Owen was her best friend. And then when the father died, it left this gaping hole in her life. All of a sudden she felt like she had to marry Owen, when really, Jaimie was the one she had that sizzle with.
I REALLY appreciated that Miss Jordan explained Jamie’s character before you even met him, it made it so I wasn’t sure, as a reader, if he was a good guy or a bad guy.
I loved how Jamie set out to prove to Paget that she was being fickle in wanting passion and in the end, found he wanted it too.
Such a fantastic novella! If you’ve never read any of Miss Jordan’s books, this would be a great one to start with. She’s such a talented author. I’m eager to read more of her in the future!
One sex scene, and no cursing.
