Guest & Contest: Tory Richards

toryRecently I queried some of the groups I belong to about what kind of formula they follow when writing for the day. Do they set a daily word count, do they try to get a chapter done each day, or do they focus on the number of pages. Most will have some kind of schedule or plan. I’ve never been one of them. Because writing is a hobby to me and I’m not very disciplined, especially since I retired from Disney.

On that note, I’ve been thinking about it lately. And it occurred to me that when I set my mind to writing, I’ll usually get one or two chapters done in a day. So I wonder, maybe that should be my formula. Set a one chapter a day goal, anything over that is a bonus.

You’d think that being retired I had all the time in the world for writing. My problem? I’ve always considered writing a hobby. When I first started as a young teenager it was therapy. And I’ve always written for me. If it became a job I probably wouldn’t write another word.

My days are busy believe it or not. Living with my daughter and her family, I make myself available to help out with the little ones. My family comes first over everything else, as it should. I get most of my writing done in the evenings and weekends, when I can hole myself up in my woman-cave and I don’t have any distractions.

In spite of not being a disciplined writer I’ve managed to have three books released so far this year, with another three or four in the works. A Perfect Fit, Instant Attraction and Yield to Me are already out. Surrender to Desire will be released on the 15th of this month, and is a kind of sequel to A Perfect Fit. I hope you’ll check them out.

Answer the question below and you’ll be entered for the chance to win a download of one of my backlist books, winner’s choice. This is for 18 years old and over only!

Question – Go to my website and check out my book covers along the left hand side. Which one captures your interest the most, and why?

My Bio – I’m a daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandma, friend, and writer. I was born in Maine but have lived most of my life in Florida.  I share my woman-cave with four felines whose main goal in life is to get as much cat hair onto everything that they can. I like good coffee, chocolate and sweet iced tea. And I enjoy hearing from readers so don’t be a stranger.

surrender to desire final2Here’s a blurb of Surrender to Desire, which will be released on April 15th.

You read Beau and Marissa’s story in A Perfect Fit.

Now read Blade and Callie’s story!

Callie thought her man troubles were over when she accepts work at the Evans ranch. Until Blade Evans rescues her out of a tree and she winds up in his arms, and his bed. Against her will she starts to fall for the handsome cowboy. Then begins to wonder, as his new housekeeper, is she just a convenient outlet for his sexual urges? Or does he feel the same way about her?

Here’s a blurb of Instant Attraction, which was released on March 11. It’s also my first multicultural romance.

Thomas is a motorcycle cop, new to the rural area. He needed a change from the hectic big city, and the pressures of being on the SWAT team. A little more peace and quiet to reflect on what he wants in life, and maybe find someone to share it with along the way. He never expected to find his perfect match in the form of one sexy, little animal activist. From the moment they meet their attraction is hot and out of control.

I think whatever works for you Tory is what you need to follow – if thinking of writing as a job would make you stop – then continue to think of it as a hobby and go at your own pace. I can say this because I’ve read several of your books and really liked them – whatever works for you works – so keep doing it:) As far as favorite covers – I’ve read the book several times and it’s still my favorite cover “The Promise” – the story is great and I smile every time I see the cover. Thanks for the giveaway!

    • You’re so sweet Maria and thank you for your words of wisdom. The Promise was a tough book to write, what with all the characters I had to keep track of. I’m glad you enjoyed it. What’s another book that you’ve read?

  2. Leanna H says:

Passionate Encounters. I love sexy cops that are grest dads. I love your books Tory! The Promise was one of the first books I downloaded yo my Kindle.

  3. Thank you Leanna! Passionate Encounters was the first of my books to have Jimmy Thomas on the cover. Did you know the book came out a few years ago under my real name and titled Cupid’s Arrow? It was a mainstream romance without the graphic language and sex. As my first book it’s always been special to me.

What other kind of heroes do you like?

  4. Mary Lockhart says:

I have read most of your books, and you know that I am really proud of you. You have always wanted to write and I am glad that you made that decision to do romance novels, as that’s the only kind of books I like most. Your novels have always had an interesting story line, and once you start reading the book its hard to put the book back down. Keep up the great work, and keep enjoying what you like to do most, and I agree the family comes first. I can’t wait for you to visit Maine again, hopefully soon!!!

    • Hi erinfi! Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment. The cover on Passionate Encounters has had a lot of interest. And it’s my first one with cover model Jimmy Thomas on it:)

    • A Perfect Fit just came out in January and the second one, Surrender to Desire, will be out on the 15th of this month. It covers another Evans brother, Blade. It will be offered at Smashwords.

  5. CassandraG says:

They all look really good. “Yield to me.” Great covers. All worthy of going on the TBR List.

    • Tory Richards says:

Thank you Karen! It’s always nice to hear when someone says they love my books. Take care!

  6. Patti P says:

The first one that caught me was Passionate Encounters, but I can not tell a lie my favorite was It’s All In The Jeans. It just reminds me of someone I used to know. LoL. Good memories there….

Thank you for a great post. I have just added some new titles o my to-read list. My husband is not going to be happy with my spending. 🙂

    • Tory Richards says:

What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him…right? It’s All in the Jeans was a fun story to write. I got a lot of inspiration at the retirement park I was living in at the time:) Thanks for coming by!

    • Tory Richards says:

LOL…to say the least, huh? I’m glad you liked A Perfect Fit. You might also like Surrender to Desire, since it’s about Beau’s brother Blade!
