Jen:  Today we are excited to welcome Macy Beckett to Romancing the Book.  Macy, will you  share a short bio with us?
Macy:  Macy Beckett writes hot, humorous romance set in the fictional town of Sultry Springs, Texas: where first loves find second chances. She lives in the appropriately-named town of Loveland, Ohio, with her husband and three kids, and additionally she publishes YA under the name Melissa Landers.

You can find Macy online in a variety of places:

Twitter: http://twitter.com/MacyBeckett
Website: http://macybeckett.com/

Jen: Please tell us about your newest release and where the idea came from.
Macy:  My newest release is A SHOT OF SULTRY, the second book in the Sultry Springs series. This story follows Trey Lewis, who you met in book one, SULTRY WITH A TWIST. Trey is paired with his best friend’s long-lost little sister, Bobbi Gallagher—a disgraced filmmaker returning to her hometown to shoot a reality dating show. Sparks fly (and maybe Bobbi’s fists, too) from the first time they meet, and it’s a wild ride all the way to the end!

Welcome to Sultry Springs, Texas: where home can be the perfect place for a fresh start.

For West Coast filmmaker Bobbi Gallagher, going back to Sultry Springs is a last resort. But with her career in tatters, a quick trip to her hometown might get her the footage she needs to salvage her reputation. She just can’t let anything distract her again. Not even the gorgeous contractor her brother asked to watch over her. As if she can’t handle filming a few rowdy Texans.

Golden boy Trey Lewis, with his blond hair and Technicolor-blue eyes, is a leading man if Bobbi ever saw one. He’s strong and confident and–much to her delight–usually shirtless. He thinks keeping his best friend’s baby sister out of trouble will be easy. But he has no idea of the trouble in store for him…

Jen: Are you a plotter or pantser?
Macy: Neither. I’m a “plantser,” a hybrid. I need to create a short synopsis before I begin drafting to make sure I know the general direction of the story, then I discover the rest as I go.

Jen: Describe your writing in 3 words.
Macy: Light, funny, steamy.

Jen: How do you remember ideas that come to you at odd times?
Macy:  I used to keep a notepad on my bedside table so I could jot down ideas in the middle of the night. But then I read an interview with Stephen King in which he claimed he never, ever writes down his ideas. He uses his memory as a litmus test—if the idea is worthy, he’ll remember it later. If it’s unworthy, he’ll forget it. At the time, I thought, “Oh, sure, Stephen King. Must be nice to have so many awesome ideas that you can afford to forget half of them.” However, as time has gone by, I’ve adopted his method. He’s right—I wasn’t using most of the ideas I’d written down because they weren’t that great. If something is fantastic, I’ll remember it on my own.

Jen:  Is there a genre you’d like to write?  Is there one you’ll probably stay away from?  Why?
Macy:  I can’t see myself writing horror. I hate blood and guts and violence. I’m a lover, not a fighter, so romance is a good fit for me.

Jen:  What’s been the highlight of you career to this point?
Macy:  I have to say it’s the fan email. I love hearing from readers, and it makes me feel incredibly uplifted when a fan says that my book pulled her out of a reading slump, or that she smiled from the first page to the last. I LOVE that feedback.

Jen:  What’s next for you?
Macy:  I’ve been a very busy author, and my upcoming release schedule reflects that. In August, the third Sultry Springs book launches—SURRENDER TO SULTRY, followed by a brand new romance series coming in 2014 from Penguin. On the young adult side, Disney Hyperion will release my debut, ALIENATED, in February of 2014, followed by the sequel in 2015. Whew. I feel worn out already.

Thanks so much for having me on the blog today! I hope you’ll spend a little time with me in Sultry Springs!

    • Betty, there was never a point where I knew I was meant to be a writer. I have an English degree, so I’ve always written. But after retiring from a decade of teaching to stay home with my babies, I found myself needing a creative outlet. That’s when I started writing fiction.

  1. Liam Hickey says:

So, I finally decided to check out a romance novel to see what they are all about. On the first page of Sultry with a Twist, she’s an new entrepreneur gambling everything she’s got. I just made a huge move like that in my life, too. Now, I have to read the rest.

  2. Maria D. says:

Thanks for the fun interview – had no idea that Macy also wrote YA under another pen name. I have the first book in this series but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. Looking forward to reading both it and this new book:)

  3. Karen G says:

I am new to you but have been trying to follow this tour. This series looks so good! I was wondering if you have to have your kids out of the area or sleeping while you are writing ‘hot’ scenes? I would find that difficult. haha
    Congratulations on the new release!

  4. Anne says:

An interesting interview which gave me insight in your writing and your talent. It sounds wonderful to write YA and have projects going on for a good many years. Best wishes.

    • I didn’t move into the YA market. ALIENATED was the first book i ever wrote. 🙂 If anything, I moved into the romance market. Why? Because June and Luke’s story came to me (the H/h in book 1) and I had to tell it.

  5. Crystal says:

From what I have read about your series it sound really good. I am going to have to check it out.

  6. Leanna H says:

I always say that if I can’t remember it it must not have been that important but I think writing doen ideas or thoughts about a book would be something I wouldn’t wsnt to risk forgetting.

  7. Rita Wray says:

I’m going to have to read the first book before I read A Shot of Sultry. I like to read a series in order. The book sounds like a fun read.

  8. Johanna Jochum says:

I love the sound of this book. Small town books are a fav of mine too. I would love to know who are some of your favorite authors are? This book is being added to my wish list.

  9. Lori Thomas says:

I saw in your interview that your books are set in Texas. Have you ever lived in Texas and what part of Texas is Sultry suppose to be in? I live in East Texas myself (born here and haven’t lived anywhere else.) I hope that you have much success with your books, both romances and YA.

  10. Linda Mc says:

Congrats on the series! My question is: how long is the short synopsis that you create before you begin your draft?

  11. Sarah says:

I’ve seen these recommended over on The Nest Book Club. I’m excited to read Sultry. Thanks for giving the interview.
