Jen: Today the Purgatory Reign Blog Tour makes a stop at Romancing the Book. LM, will you please share a short bio with us?
LM: LM Preston is an insatiable reader, but from an early age enjoyed writing so much she carried a notebook of poems, short stories and songs with her. On a dare from her husband, she wrote her first full feature middle grade science fiction novel. Thereafter, she’s penned eight novels which include young adult, middle grade, romance, science fiction and paranormal adventures. In addition, she’s involved in the writing community as a Moderator with Yalitchat.org, a conference coordinator with Maryland Writers Association and as the VP of Mid Atlantic Book Publishers Association.
Jen: Please tell us about your newest release and where the idea came from.
LM: Purgatory Reign is an action packed, paranormal, romance with a splash of adventure, that takes the reader through several cities, into secret hidden sanctuaries while on the run with Peter Saints, our seventeen year old hero and his friends.
Something evil this way comes…sadly for it, Peter Saints awaits.
Peter Saint’s life stinks. But things are about to get much worst. First, his parents are murdered in front of him. Then another victim dies in his arms. Visions plague Peter with warnings that something wants him for a sinister cause. It desires the one thing that Peter refuses to give—his blood. Peter carries within him the one gift or curse that could unlock a secret to destroy the human race. On the run with Angel, a scruffy kid, Peter starts to unravel the mystery. It’s the one treasure the heavens sought to hide from the world. Unfortunately, when Peter finds the answer that he hopes will save the girl he loves, he opens the door to a great evil that happens to be salivating to meet him.
LM: I’m a plotter all the way. I originally started writing as a pantser, but I got frustrated because I suffered from writer’s block and my plot would have a tremendous amount of holes. So, after attending a few writing workshops, I tried my hand at plotting and I found that it improved my writing times and I had less challenges with writer’s block.
Jen: Describe your writing in 3 words.
LM: Fast paced, tortured characters, and twisted.
Jen: How do you remember ideas that come to you at odd times?
LM: I carry a notepad with me. Now though that have an iphone I jot them down on the ‘notepad’ app which even lets me email the idea to myself.
Jen: If this book was made into a movie, who do you see playing the main characters?
LM: Taylor Lautner all the way. I remember that kid from ‘Shark boy and Lava Girl’, lol!
Jen: What do you do in your free time?
LM: I love playing with my kids. They think I’m a teen caught in an adult person’s body. For New Year’s eve I even played musical chairs, hide and seek, and had a dance off with them.
Jen: What’s next for you?
LM: Wastelands is my current work in progress, I worked on it for nanowrimo and am in the editing stages. It’s the second book in the Bandits series and should be coming out Fall 2013. Also, I’m finishing up edits on Thundering Luv, book 2 in my Summer Love series that will be coming out in July 2013.
