Book four, OUT OF TURN, will be released on 12/17/13.
For this blog stop, Romancing the Book was kind enough to ask a few questions (which always helps since I never know what to write on these things!). So thank you and here they are!
Q: At what age did you discover writing?
A: Hmm, let’s see, about four years ago? I’ve read voraciously since I first learned how (I remember quite vividly being afraid I’d get in trouble for checking out a book from the library called “Now That I’m Seven” when I was really only six), but it never really occurred to me to try my hand at writing. At least not until I got so frustrated with an ongoing romance series and a love triangle that I decided to write my own ending, darn it! Lol Well, to my surprise, I actually had the patience to sit and write an entire book length piece of fiction. After that, I thought I might as well try creating my own world and characters. I did and NO TURNING BACK, the first book in the series, was born. After that, I was hooked.
Q: Do you have a writing routine?
A: I treat it like any other job. I get the kids off to school and sit down to start writing by 8 am or before. I work through the day and try to finish up by five so I can make dinner and have family time. It doesn’t always work that way, though. Tight deadlines might mean I have to work through the weekends or late nights. And working with deadlines also means that I’m not at a luxury of waiting for inspiration to strike if I get stuck – I just have to keep plugging away. So some days are easier than others, depending on how the words flow.
Q: Is there a genre you’d like to write? Is there a genre you’ll probably stay away from? Why?
A: I will probably never stray from romance, in its many forms, so you’ll never see a literary fiction work from me or a sci-fi (though I love to read sci-fi), etc. Romance is my first love (no pun intended) and is what makes me keep turning the pages. Currently of course, I write romantic suspense, but I would like to try my hand sometime at contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and erotica, so you might see me delve into those genres in the future.
Q: Who are some of your favorite authors? What are you reading now?
A: I love historical romance (Regency is my favorite) along with political thrillers and urban fantasy. Some of my favorite authors include Eloisa James, Jane Feather, Charlaine Harris, Lorraine Heath, Vince Flynn, Tom Clancy, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Kresley Cole, and JR Ward. I also enjoy historical non-fiction (my college degree is in History) and my favorite author there is David Hackett Fischer (I can’t recommend his book Washington’s Crossing enough). Lately I’ve been feeling nostalgic for when I first discovered The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris so I decided to reread the series. I just started Club Dead.
Q: What did you do to celebrate your first book? Do you do anything to celebrate a sale, new contract, or release?
A: My first book was more of a personal celebration of accomplishment, no parties for that one. For the release of TURNING POINT, I’m planning on a celebration at a local pub and have invited friends to come by and have a drink or two with me so I don’t stare at my computer screen the entire day. Release day is equal parts excitement and terror and while the invites were for 4 pm, I may be starting at noon…
