Interview & Contest: Jeanette Murray

Jen: Today we welcome Jeanette Murray to Romancing the Book! Jeanette, will you please share a short bio with us?
Jeanette: Jeanette also writes contemporary romance under the name Kat Murray.

Jeanette spends her days surrounded by hunky alpha male heroes…at least in her mind. In real life, she’s a one-hero kind of woman. When she’s not chasing her daughter or their lovable-but-stupid Goldendoodle around the house, she’s deep in her own fictional world, building another love story. She and her family recently settled on the outskirts of St. Louis, and they are having fun exploring their new area.

For more information, head over to her website at www.jeanettemurray.com, follow her on Twitter at @KJMurrayBooks, or find her on Facebook at Facebook.com/jeanettemurraybooks

Jen: Please tell us about your newest release and where the idea came from.
Jeanette: The Officer Breaks the Rules is the second book in the Semper Fi series, following Jeremy and Madison’s story. Jeremy is Tim O’Shay’s best friend (from book 1 of the series) and Madison is Tim’s sister. She’s wanted him since forever, and he’s avoided her for just as long. But now they’re stationed together and can’t avoid hanging out.

Jen: Do you have a writing routine?
Jeanette: My writing routine right now consists of carving out as much time as I can during naps or preschool, and after Hubs gets home to spend some quality time with Tot. It’s a mad dash for the words, but mostly I lock myself in the office (literally, lock…toddler curiosity is a killer!) and do my thing until my butt goes numb, it’s too quiet (indicating there’s something wrong) or Hubs knocks and tells me if I don’t come out of there and hang out with him he’s going to bed. LOL

Jen: What’s been the highlight of you career to this point?
Jeanette: Eloisa James recently wrote up about my western, Taking the Reins, in her monthly Barnes & Noble column, and let me know she greatly enjoyed the book. Uh, whoa, pardon me while I blink repeatedly in astonishment!

Jen: What did you do to celebrate your first book?  Do you do anything to celebrate a sale, new contract or release?
Jeanette: Mostly, this involves something that means I’m not cooking for the night. Outback cheese fries are my kryptonite. Tell me I have a reason to celebrate, and I’m heading right for the fries and ranch dipping sauce. Oh, and now I’m hungry. Whoops!

Jen: What do you do in your free time?
Jeanette: Free time? What is this “free time” of which you speak? Chasing after my 3 year old and full time writing and still attempting to make sure the Hubs knows I’m alive from behind the office door keeps me pretty busy. Oh, and we just moved recently, so I’m still in the process of organizing our new house. But I do love finding lost treasures in thrift stores or Craigslist and repurposing them or refinishing them. Just bought a pair of swivel chairs for a song that I have wonderful plans for…

Jen: What’s next for you?
Jeanette: I just had a release under my other pen name, Kat Murray, with a brand new series, a western romance called Taking the Reins. And then of course, in the summer you’ll see book three of the Semper Fi series, focusing on Dwayne as he comes home from a deployment and finds someone very special waiting for him.

Using book #1 in the Semper Fi series to avoid writing my doctoral dissertation… and will soon be using book #2 for the same purpose. Because hot alpha heroes trump regulation of bacterial gene expression any day 😀

  4. Thanks for the great interview. I love that your books are military oriented and they are authentic. I was in ROTC in high school and have many friends that are int he military and your book just reminds of them and all of the time I spent around Marines when in ROTC.

I love a series where we can get updates on characters from earlier books, and a military romance is so much fun.

  19. Patti P says:

I never had a crush on any of my brothers friends but my friend had a crush on my brother. I think it is easier for a sister to understand that then a brother. This sounds really good and I am adding it to my goodreads list.
Thanks for visiting us here at RtB. Wishing you the best and hoping you will be back many times with more great stories in the future.
