Interview & Contest: Sharon Kleve

Jen: Today we are happy to welcome Sharon Kleve to Romancing the Book. Sharon, please share with us a short bio.
Sharon: Sharon Kleve was born and raised in Washington and currently lives on the Olympic Peninsula with her husband.

She loves romance. She loves reading romance, living romance, and especially loves writing about romance. She gets no greater feeling than watching her characters come alive in each other’s arms. Most of all, she loves giving her characters the happily ever after they deserve—with a few bumps and bruises along the way.

One of her favorite things to do is picking up a new book and sinking into the story, immersing herself in the emotions between the characters. She hopes to inspire her readers the same way her favorite authors have inspired her.

When not writing, she can usually be found either curled up in her recliner with her cat and a good book, or in the kitchen baking sourdough bread or bagels.

Jen: Tell us about your newest release and where the idea came from.
Sharon: Klutzy Love is a Paranormal Romance and it’s the third book in the Corny Myers Series. It takes you back to when Corny and Steve first meet. The first book in the series is a Christmas story and the second is a Valentines story.

Jen: How do you choose the character’s names?
Sharon: I’ve been asked that before and I have no idea. I guess they come from the same place as the ideas come from, that weird part of a writer’s brain that talks to them.

Jen: Why paranormal romance?  Is there a genre you’d like to try or one you’ll stay away from?
Sharon: The paranormal element is my heroine can communicate with animals. I really enjoy writing about animals and their crazy and sarcastic interactions with humans. I’ll stick with humorous romance for now because I’m having fun. I’d like to try and write a scary romance but I’d probably make people laugh instead.

Jen: Who are some of your favorite authors?  What are you reading now?
Sharon: Janet Evanovich & J.D. Robb are my all time favorites. I go to the library at least twice a week and pickup something new to read. This week I’m reading James Patterson.

Jen: What’s next for you?
Sharon: I’m working on the last few chapters of St. Patrick with a Bite, the fourth book in The Corny Myers Series.

I’m especially excited that my recipe, “Lip Smacking Pork Roulade” was chosen to be in “Free Recipes from the Hottest Romance Authors Passionate Cooks.” The cookbook will be offered for FREE on All Romance sites including,, and beginning in October.

Here’s a short excerpt from Klutzy Love:

Corny is a hot chick with a great job that she loves. All that changed in the blink of an eye when her boss had an accident involving an oversized rubber band. She’s still a hot chick, but her boss is dead.

Steve Spears is a seasoned narcotics cop who ends up wanting to strangle Corny on a regular basis. After finding out Corny’s dream of opening a pet detective business, he decides he doesn’t want a girlfriend who routinely puts herself in danger. That’s his job!

Corny misses Steve, but she’s getting on with her life. She decides to get a month’s worth of dating out of the way in a single night, by combining her three favorite things—men, food, and alcohol.

Steve’s big gun and cop’s intuition saves Corny’s life, but not from another trip to the emergency room. He makes Corny promise never to get hurt again—she agreed, but has her fingers crossed behind her back.

  1. Hi Sharon,

Nice interview and loved the timeline pix on your FB page especially the cutie pie squirrels. Corny needs a precious squirrel “friend” to chat or would that be chitter with?” One of the tiny red Douglas squirrels would do well:)

    • Thank you Chris for stopping by.

I agree a red squirrel would make a great critter friend for Corny. I’ve completed a fourth Corny Myers book in which her sidekick is a seagull.

Great interview. These books look great. This is a new author for me. I love to read and always looking for new authors to check out.
I think you should use a tamed/pet fox in your next book. I used to work with a lady that had a pure white/albino fox. She was just like a dog. She was a great pet. Thanks for the giveaway.

How about a chicken or duck? She could have a little rhinestone collar for it.

Interesting post and the story sound like I need to pick & read… New to me author and book (congrats & best wishes), thanks for sharing the post.

I would agree with some of others but mix it up a bit… Chinchilla would be my choice, they are soo cute (or a ferret…)

I’m rather partial to the idiosyncrasies that chickens display. They are hilarious. Chatting away all day.
