Today we have an interview with Cat Grant, co-author of the Power Play series with Rachel Haimowitz and author of Once a Marine, Priceless, Doubtless, and the upcoming release Fearless.

Did you fall in love with Wes and Connor in Priceless? Catch up with them in Fearless, the third book in the Irresistible Attraction universe.

Hi, Cat! Welcome! Many of us have fallen in love with your books already, but can you tell us a little about your latest releases?
Doubtless, released by Riptide 7/16/12, was a follow up to my rent boy novella, Priceless, featuring the hero Steve Campbell on a journey of self-discovery that ends on an upbeat, hopeful note, though not a traditional HEA. Then there’s my upcoming release Fearless (due out 12/10/12) which is more like a sequel to Priceless. Fearless catches up with Connor and Wes a year into their relationship, as they get ready to tie the knot.

If you want to know what happens to Steve, though, don’t worry—he’ll be getting his own love story soon!

Where/When do you do most of your writing?
I’m a night owl. Most of my books have been written between 10 PM and 2 AM.

How many books do you hope to publish next year?
Four or five. Maybe six, if I can manage it.

Which of your book covers is your favorite? Who designed that cover?
All my Riptide covers have been winners, but I’d have to say my fave is Power Play: Awakening. Imaliea did an absolutely stunning job!

What would you tell a reader reluctant to read LGBTQ romance/erotica?
Give it a try. The only women who don’t like m/m are the ones who haven’t read it yet.

Would your readers be surprised to meet you in person? Why?
Because I’m a 52 year old woman with tattoos on my arms and shoulders. Tends to turn a lot of heads.

We noticed your NOH8 picture in your author bio! Do you donate to charities? Which ones?
I support the NOH8 Campaign, PETA and the It Gets Better Project.

Can you believe Riptide is one year old already?
I KNOW! I’m still pinching myself. And still proud to be one of Riptide’s launch authors.

What made you publish with Riptide?
Aleks Voinov had been one of my critique partners, and he asked me to submit something. I was working on Once a Marine at the time, but I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to give it to Riptide until another publisher made an offer on it – and asked for edits I wasn’t happy with. So I took the plunge and sold it to Riptide. A year later, I have no regrets.

What do you think about the future of e-publishing?
I think in 10 years, it’ll probably be the only publishing there is. New York is, simply, too slow and behind the times.

What have you learned from your time as a Riptide author?
That no matter how good I think I am, I still have so much to learn.

Is there anything else you would like to say to our readers?
Thank you so much for making me  – and Riptide – such a success.

Bio: EPIC Award-winning author Cat Grant lives by the sea in beautiful Monterey, California, with one persnickety feline and entirely too many books and DVDs. When she’s not writing, she sings along (badly!) to whatever’s on her iPod shuffle, watches lots of movies, and fantasizes about kinky sex with Michael Fassbender.

So much of your interview rang true with me, Cat. I’m a similar age (55) and live with a completely crazy feline. No tattoos, though, but have often thought about it.
Hmm, I too loved the cover of Power Play. Beautiful artwork there, and the characters! *drops dead*
I loved Priceless, and mentioned in my review on GR about the ending, how it wasn’t conventional but worked very well for me.
So hi, and I’d love a chance at the Riptide voucher so I can buy Fearless with a clear conscience. I’ll probably end up buying with a guilty one later anyway 😉

AWAKENING is an insanely hot cover. I’m always amazed that there’s any romance BUT m/m at this point…it’s just so much more hot and engaging!

    • Yeah, we got incredibly lucky, finding Imaliea. I remember the day I got the final cover. I immediately put it up as my laptop’s wallpaper! 🙂

Congrats on Riptide’s first anniversary. i love their personal touch. I am 52 years old too, Cat! It’s kinda of a cool age, innit? I STILL haven’t gotten my tattoo, but now that autumn is here, I can at least wear my turquoise Doc Martens. Match my reading glasses…

I am a cover junky, and I really like the cover of Awakening: Power Play! Those are very specific characters there, and they are interacting intensely. Much better than headless torso stock photo generics. I cannot wait to read these books! Thank you!

I’m excited about the sequel to Priceless. Happy Anniversary to Riptide and to you with your association with them. BTW – I visited Monterey and it’s such a gorgeous place.

    • I’ve lived in Monterey since 1994, and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. I really am a dyed in the wool California girl.

Hope you enjoy Fearless. It’s my first time Christmas story. Hope I was able to capture the holiday spirit – I wrote it last June! 🙂

  5. Melora says:

Once a Marine was my first book from Riptide so I have to thank you for writing such a solidly compelling tale and them for giving it such tender loving care. Together you made it a reading experience I was very happy to repeat.

  14. Joan says:

“Power Play: Resistance” was the first book I bought from Riptide and to be honest I didn’t like it. “Power Play: Awakening” was soo much better – the relationship, the sex, the communication, the cover 🙂
