Faced with an abhorrent betrothal, Cailin Macmillan flees her father’s castle and quickly learns that a woman traveling alone in Medieval Scotland is an easy target for ruthless English soldiers. When Highland patriot Connor Fraser comes to her aid, his steadfast dedication to king and country is challenged by his overwhelming desire to protect Cailin–even if he must marry her to do so.

Accused of murdering one of her attackers and determined to rely on her own resourcefulness, Cailin dresses as a lad, intent on seeking refuge at the camp of Robert the Bruce. Can she elude an enemy from her past–a vindictive English lord bent on her utter demise–or will she fall prey to his carnal intent and be executed for a crime she did not commit?

Review:  I think in another life I lived in medieval times. I am so drawn to these types of books that I can’t seem to get enough of them. While in Ireland touring the castles, I fantasized about all the characters I read about real and make believe (although to me they are real) living in said castles. I could see everything about them. So once again I am drawn to the pure title of a book.

I wasn’t disappointed. Robert the Bruce a big part of medieval times always adds the true element making any story so much more believable. From the beginning of Ms. Scott’s tale with the Sexy Highland Warriors in kilts…Hot…Hot…Hot you will find that your heart is captured by the sheer romance that only they can bring to a story (Sean Connery…enough said).

Caitlin MacMillan spirited and smart, finds herself surrounded by the darkness of life that only greedy parent can bring who knows not what love is. Her father has betrothed her to a just as dark man who is three times her age. Although I would like to think that somewhere it can be a possibility it just isn’t working her and right fully so. She needs love, light, life. Not the horrors, hardships, danger that is her life and how she is treated by her father and soon to be betrothed.

In walks Conner Fraser. Highland warrior to rescue her from the “dark” life she has now. Can we say…Sexy as hell, wildly living life on the edge? He has vowed that he will fight alongside Robert the Bruce. Having already lost his parents and two brothers he doesn’t want to get married and leave a young bride behind if something were to happen to him. But once he meets Caitlin even though he tries to tell himself he doesn’t want a wife; he somehow starts to question his life in general. In other words she gets to him. Caitlin who only wants to escape her bleak existence finds herself drawn to Conner. He is after all oh so sexy….

Needless to say I fear that they are both going to find out that they need each other to find that completeness. Caitlin finds that there is life away from her father and the darkness as she sees the acceptance that the Fraser clan gives to her showing her love. She goes from one extreme to the other. She is enthralled with the fierce loyalty that the Fraser brothers have to each other as she was never privy to this in her old life.

The mountains, battles, castles, clans, smells, foods, people and life in the highlands makes me want to go back in time to live there as Ms. Scott had a way of bringing it to life. I loved the solid story that captured this romantic girl’s heart. I found this simply irresistible from start to finish with the passionate fire of this love story. Did I happen to mention the Sexy Highland Warriors in kilts?
