Romancing the Blog: Under the Covers

Today we welcome the ladies from one of my favorite sites… Under the Covers Book Blog.   Please help them feel welcome!

Jen: What makes your blog unique in a large sea of book blogs?
Francesca: We feature a pretty wide range of genres in both our reviews and the authors that we interview.  You will find anything from erotica and m/m to sweet contemporary and historical, a lot of paranormal and even dark urban fantasy.  We may even do the occasional steampunk and young adult title!  And most important, we like to keep our blog fun!
Annie: We also host a weekly meme called Dirty Little Secret (DLS) on Thursdays where we ask bloggers fun questions. Last week we asked people to create their own fantasy cast for Magic Mike of their fave celebs! Got some hilarious answers and lots of eye candy!
Suzanne: I agree with everything Annie and Fran said! We do a wide range of genres so that pretty much everything with a little romance and steam is covered. We also try and keep it fun and try out new ideas.
Angela: I think we all agree that we review a wide range genre and we give honest respectable reviews.  We try to keep it fun and keep up with the new releases.

Jen: What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a part of the blogging community?
Francesca: We’ve met a lot of interesting people and have become close friends with a lot of other bloggers, readers and authors!  The interaction we have with our readers sometimes lets us know that our reviews and recommendations have made an impact in their lives when they needed something good to pick their spirits up a bit.
Annie: For me it’s always been the interaction with authors, readers and other bloggers.
Suzanne: It’s all about the people, it is great seeing your favorite authors and connecting with a variety of people from around the world that you maybe wouldn’t normally get a chance to speak to.
Angela: I’m with Suzanne. Connecting to different types of people who share similar tastes in books is a biggie. And getting to know the authors are definitely icing to the cake.

Jen: What’s been the highlight of your blogging experience?
Francesca: When we first started blogging we made it a goal to achieve the numbers we would need so that we could get to interview some of our favorite authors.  We can honestly say we have achieved every goal we set over a year ago, even when at the time they seemed so unreal and unachievable.
Suzanne: It was such a blast to get to 2000 followers! We never thought when we first started the blog just over a year ago that we would reach so many people so quickly, it was fantastic.
Angela: Being a part if UTC is a big one for me. Reaching certain milestones and knowing I was a part of it is a great feeling!!!

Jen: If you had to recommend one book to our readers, what would it be and why?
Francesca: Wow that’s a hard question, how can I pick just one?  So let me go with something that people may not be as familiar with.  Earlier this year I read WICKED AS THEY COME by Delilah S. Dawson.  This is so awesome.  It’s dark and weird and gross and just wickedly fascinating!  I couldn’t get enough of it!!
Annie: The Siren by Tiffany Reisz. It’s not your typical erotica romance. It deals with S&M and there are no sweet whisperings of I-love-yous or anything like that. It’s dark but also light in tone because of banter between characters. It’s the one book that had me completely captivated as I read it and long after I finished turning that last page.
Suzanne: Just one book?! Hmmm, okay I am going to cheat a teensy bit and recommend a series, the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, I LOVE that series. It is funny, action packed with a kick ass heroine and my favorite hero ever Curran. If you like UF, you have got to give it a try.
Angela: Wow, that’s a tough one. Well, one thing I’ve learned from blogging is stepping outside my comfort zone and just plunging into a book I’m unsure about. My recent plunge is The Taker by Alma Katsu. This book took me for a wild rollercoaster of emotions and enjoyed it.

Jen: Do you have any news about your blog that you’d like to share with us?
UTC:Yes! We are currently hosting our second Erotic Romance event, Burning Up July.  This month we are featuring only authors that write steamy, but amazing books, have lots of interviews and author guest posts as well as giveaways.  As part of this event we are also hosting our second Doms Dungeon, the Ultimate Dom competition.  Be sure to stop by and check things out this month.  And we are also opening up registrations for our Hot in Handcuffs Giveaway Blog Hop which will run October 10-15.  Sign up here:  http://underthecoversbookblog.blogspot.com/2012/07/hot-in-handcuffs-giveaway-blog-hop-sign.html

I love UTC! I am a big fan of any blog that reviews PNR and UF.

I haven’t read the Kate Daniel series yet, but it’s on my list. I always read such great things about it.

I love the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger and the Downside Ghost series by Stacia Kane.

  2. Evie says:

Legend by Marie Lu is a book that I’d recommend 🙂
I’m really looking forward to read The Taker by Alma Katsu.
Thanks a lot for the great interview and giveaway!

  3. Yay!! My favorite ladies!! If you haven’t read Under the Covers, run over there!! It’s funny and I can’t even begin to tell yo how many books I’ve bought because of their recommendations.

Right now I’m recommending Ruthie Knox’s books to everyone. They are funny but wowza, are they hot! Love them!!

  4. UTC is such a fantastic blog!

Can I go ahead and recommend a series? The Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole is a series I recommend to anyone, I love it!

  5. First of all thanks Jen for featuring us today! And thank you so much ladies for the love and support! Glad you enjoy our blog and that you’ve read some good books thanks to our reviews 😉

@Krista, Kate Daniels is just AWESOME!!!!!
@Evie, hope you enjoy The Taker, Angela loved it.
@Brunette Librarian, HI!! I haven’t read that author yet, but I’ve heard great things.
    @Nat, I agree IAD is a MUST-READ series.

  6. So many bloggers in one blog 🙂 I love reading UTC and their giveaways of course!

As for what I would recommend as a must-read, it would be Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead or Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine for YA. For historical romance, any book from DeeAnne Gist will hit all the right spots. She doesn’t have any sexual scenes. Just when you’re waiting for it to happen, she cuts to the next scene. This way, you are more focused on the characters and the situation 🙂 So fun to read her books.

I love going to UTC! Love to read the reviews!
I’d definitely recommend Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun. Very good erotic book with an older women and younger men story.

  9. Suzanne says:

I recommend Bianc Sommerlands Dartmouth Cobras Hocey Team series. Great reads.
Suzanne sounds like such a fun loving person.

I follow Under the Covers and enjoy the blog quite a lot. I’m glad to hear you liked Wicked as They Come, Francesca, I have it waiting for me on my TBR pile. 😀

    • Barbara Elness says:

The books I would recommend are Jenn Bennett’s Kindling the Moon and Summoning the Night. I read them both this summer and they’re fantastic.

  11. Crystal Newman says:

Well I have recommended several books, so I won’t say which. I will tell you what makes me recommend a book.

When I get done with a book and it’s still in my mind afterwards, I get a certain feeling while I’m reading it, if it takes me away and I’m just so much into it that I’m in the book as a character. That is some of the things that will make me recommend a book. I wish it happened with every book that I read but it doesn’t.

I want to say thank you for coming and telling us about yourself and I really enjoyed it. I hope that my twitter let me follow you because I have been having problems with it. Now I must go and read books to review.

I would have to go with the Demonica and Lords of Deliverance series by Larissa Ione. These are great books, with wonderful unique characters and an awesome world. I am so glad that these books were recommended on various blogs and that I read them. I am now a huge Larissa Ione fan and her books are must haves for me 🙂

I really love yourt blog and i’m happy to follow it. I’m a fan of Patricia briggs so i recommend her a lot ( the hob bargain is wonderful as well as mercy thomson series) but at the moment i also love dd barant “the bloodhound files” series more urban fantasy than romance but there is romance still and i love it

  14. wyndwhisper says:

i usually tell them anything by Sable Hunter or Stacey Espino. i have yet to read a bad book by either of them, their fantastic authors. also Iron House by John Hart. although his book may not be for everyone it is an awesome book. if you like books that have lots of plot twists then you should read it because you’ll never see it coming.

This is another blog that I read most days. They do have a wide variety of authors, which is interesting. I would recommend About Last Night by Ruthie Knox.

  16. SoftFuzzySweater says:

I tell others to read “Fireworks Over Toccoa” as a mainstream read with heavily romantic elements. It’s a box of Kleenex read. Just heartwrenching.

  17. Karen H in NC says:

I recommend reading anything by Julia Quinn. I just finished her latest ‘A Night Like This’ and it was great!

  18. Cheryl McInnis says:

Under The Covers is a daily blog stop for me…I love it 🙂
I always recommend Cherise Sinclair’s Master Of The Mountain to my romance reading friends…and so far, everyone that has read it has thanked me 😉

  19. erinf1 says:

thanks for a fun post!!! I visit UTC daily! It’s definitely one of my daily blogs 🙂 Ummm… the last book I read was a DNF so wracking the brain… Oh yeah!

I would recommend Shaedes of Gray: A Shaede Assassin Novel by Amanda Bonilla and the sequel, Blood Before Sunrise… they were awesome!

  20. Jen B. says:

I really try to customize my book recommendations BUT I generally always mention Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel series (mind blowing and amazing) and Lori Armstrong (strong female protagonist and beautiful writing). I love UTC. I only started following recently and I wish I had known about the blog sooner!

  21. Tina B says:

I love your blog, ladies! It is one that I read and try to respond on almost a daily basis. Congrats on your success so far! Hope it continues for you. 😀

    • Tina B says:

A book that I recommend as a must read is actually in a series…Tempted by Elisabeth Naughton. It is the 3rd book in her Eternal Guardians series.

  22. Jeanne Miro says:

Francesca – The one thing I love about Romancing The Book is that when I’m looking for a new genre or author to read I know I can find it here!

In your author interviews you always are able to find out that one defining fact or interest that helps us to connect more fully with their stories.

Most of all thanks for keeping your blog fun and interesting!

    • Jeanne Miro says:

Oops! I pushed “Leave A Reply” before I let you know my book recommendation!

I think that anyone who loves any type of romance book should read Don Quixote by Cervantes. Cervantes was the “creator” of romance and to this day is still considered the one writer who made the biggest impact in the field.

  23. Lynn K says:

I enjoy visiting Under the Covers! I discovered a bunch of favorite UF titles from them, particularly Kate Daniels (my all time favorite!)
