Romancing the Blog: Guilty Pleasures

PhotobucketThank you Jen for inviting us to stop by Romancing The Book, one of my favorite review sites.

I am DiDi, the owner of Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews. I may be the owner, but Guilty Pleasures wouldn’t exist without my wonderful GP Review Crew, these ladies are the backbone of Guilty Pleasures.

We LOVE our wonderful readers, they keep us challenged to provide honest respectful reviews (no snark allowed), fun contests, great guest posts, and author interviews.

Thank you for checking out our Guilty Pleasures, we hope they become yours too!

Here is a blog I wrote, that originally post on Guilty Pleasures. I love the topic and would love to know what influenced your love of HEAs.

A TALE AS OLD AS TIME

What Influenced Your Love of HEAs?

Recently I was watching Beauty and the Beast with my 2 yr old niece and I realized….THIS is where I first fell in love with Alphas and Happily Ever Afters.

I also realized why Beauty and the Beast has always been HANDS DOWN my FAVORITE Once Upon A Time/HEA. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Alpha men. Especially when they are guarded, grouchy and ill-tempered. The Beast is the ultimate Alpha male for me. I am also a hopeless romantic and watching Belle’s patience and sweetness with Beast, watching Beast fight his growing attraction to Belle, then let down his guard, open up to her, let her go because he cared for her so much even when it meant the curse wouldn’t get reversed. When he didn’t fight back against Gascon because he thought he’d lost Belle, all of these things make this a perfect romance in my books. I freakin’ cry every time he “dies” and smile every time he comes back as the Prince…..SIGGHHHHH!!!!

I love romances with a secondary cast that is caring, funny and loving and when the H/h find love when/where they least expect it…see where I’m going with this….they’re all components in Beauty and the Beast.

Beauty and the Beast is the Ultimate HEA for me and the fact that it shaped my love of reading and what I love/want in a man amazes me.

So there you have it, even though I am and have always been an independent woman, I want an ALPHA man, a man who will take control and I blame it on Disney and the Beast 😉

Has a Disney movie influenced you? Have you ever tried to figure out when or why you fell in love with romance?

Great post! I think I fell in love with romance watching a Disney movie too but for me it was Cinderella! That has always been one of my favorite stories. I do follow both blogs.

I’m one of the lucky reviewers at Guilty Pleasures and Didi is way too modest. She’s an amazing lady and I personally don’t know how she does it all. Thank you Romancing the Book for hosting Guilty Pleasures today, you’ll are awesome!

Thanks for coming by and telling us about your reviews. My personal favorite Disney movie will have to be Snow White. I’ve always loved it. Now my daughter loves it.

Love the post! I really enjoyed reading your explanation, Didi. 🙂
I never really picked it apart like that, but can now see the alpha that Beast is. That’s awesome! I have wondered where my love of romance comes from, but have yet to figure it out. I love romantic movies too. And the more alpha the man, the better!
My favorite movie when I was real young was Cinderella. In my teens, it changed to Aladdin. I think it’s the dark eyed, dark haired hero. 😉
I love Guilty Pleasures! All of you ladie rock!! I follow both blogs by email.

It’s been a long time, so I don’t know exactly when I fell in love with HEA’s, but it was probably while watching TV shows or movies – always like the Disney shows with a bit of romance & an HEA – after all I’d rather end the story on a good note.

I love the Disney movies with romance in them. Beauty and the Beast, Lady and the Tramp, Little Mermaid to me they are the best Disney movies. I cant say they influenced me. But I can tell you what movie I watched that I first realized what romance was. The Sound of Music. To this day I still think that Christopher Plummer is hot.

I don’t know when I first saw and loved the HEA but the Disney Beauty and the Beast movie was definitely a favorite from when I first saw it with my children.

  9. Krista says:

I follow you both via Linky as Krista.

I love Cinderella themed books. My favorite is Charming the Prince by Teresa Medeiros. To be honest, most Cinderella themed books are horrible, but I keep going back for more 🙂

  10. JOYE says:

Seeing Cinderella I wanted to be a dress designer-I loved all of the fancy clothes in those movies.

  11. Na says:

I’ve always been a romantic and it likely started early on with fairy tales, even though the real fairy tales weren’t that romantic! I like seeing the characters get their HEA.

I don’t know that I am really a HEA kind of gal when it comes to my reading. I get really excited about the journey and the HEA is just icing on the cake. I have always love the Disney movies. I think I decided I really loved them after watching Beauty and the Beast. Belle is awesome!

    Hi DiDi,
thank you for the chance at such a great giveaway. i love your blog and try and stop by every day to see what up. i think i prefer an HEA in my romance novels because they are so few and far between in reality. but in other genres i’m satisfied with the HFN.

I can still remember that fateful day in 1979 when I took my 5 and 7 year old sons to the movies. They had been mopping around since there Dad had left for his annual Navy Reserve duty and I knew that something had to be done.

That day we went to see a Disney movie and to this day they remember how much fun it was to be sad but still to be able to laugh (a lot!) as well. That movie was The Muppet Movie and Kermit the Frog decides to head to Hollywood to become a star.

I’m still in love with Kermit after all these years and he can still take the tears out of a little boys eyes. The only difference is now those boys are my grandsons (and granddaughters) and not my sons!

Kermit – your still my prince in shinning amour!

  15. Beauty and the beast is one of my favorite movies of all time! I also love Cinderella <3

Thank you to everyone who stopped by! Our contest winner is Krista, who has been contacted via email.

  17. I am a Disney fan and my fave princesses are Aurora and Mulan. I think Sleeping Beauty is one of the most classic romance fairy tales you can find. It’s all about that love at first sight. Or song rather. And THE KISS!!

  18. Just wanted to stop by and thank you all for stopping by. Looks like we are all hopeless romantics =)

Thanks Jen for such a fun opportunity!
