Romancing the Blog: Booked Up

Booked Up Hi I’m Fashionta over from Booked Up. I want to thank Jen for organizing this interview.

Jen: How did you get into blogging?
Fashionta: It was kind of by accident. One of my friends who happens to be a reviewer on the blog told me about Netgalley and Goodreads and I was curious. I’ve been a book lover since I was little and I always had an option on a book. So I thought why don’t I start a blog and do something I love? So last September, I started to get active in the book reviewing community by joining Goodreads and at the same time started my blog and gradually I got a few of my friends to help in reviewing. Now there are about twenty of us who review.

Jen: What makes your blog unique in a large sea of book blogs?
Fashionta: We all are romance lovers and we do crazy amount of reading and it is hard not to write a review for every book we read. At any given time, we’re probably reading or chatting. Yes, we have mass chats on our special reviewer Hotmail group where we discuss the books we are currently reading and dish on anything happening to us as the core group of reviewers are really a close-knit group and I’m hoping *fingers crossed* to start hosting chats soon.

Jen: What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a part of the blogging community?
Fashionta: The other bloggers and reviewers I have met through various sites and the willingness to help and share their knowledge. When I first started I only got advise from my friend Kat who runs Forever Book Lover but since then I have meet the lovely ladies of the Romance Book bloggers over at Yahoo Groups and many others. If wasn’t for these people I would of gone crazy over the problems I have had. Oh, I must confess that I can’t live without the Goodreads site. For a month and a half, I had to keep a list of what I was reading because I was too distracted by groups and reading discussions on Goodreads.

Jen: What’s been the highlight of your blogging experience?
Fashionta: The authors that I have the pleasure to meet by interviewing them for the blog and getting review requests. I have had a few OMG moments when I checked my email and saw a request come in. Also, the ones I have discovered by reviewing and acting on the recommendations I received from others. There are some great authors out there.

Jen: If you had to recommend one book to our readers, what would it be and why?
Fashionta: How to Romance a Rake by Manda Collins. I had the pleasure to read an ARC of this book which is set to be released in a couple of days (July 31). Manda has a way with words and strong female characters and this book is no exception to her engaging style. Manda has injected a little bit of her own self into the book with the main female character sharing the same problem she has and she doesn’t mince words about it in the book and the heroine’s mother, I think, is going to stir up lot of discussion about her.

Jen: Do you have any news about your blog that you’d like to share with us?
Fashionta: All I can say for now is stay tuned. I’m hoping to announce something big and exiting about the blog’s future and design.

Awesome Interview! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for the future of Booked Up! I’d go simply crazy without goodreads. I’d never be able to keep track of my books. Haha. 🙂

I went over and checked out your blog, cute. It seems like you review a variety of different genres. Since I read a big variety, I do like that. And I love the little bee…very cute. I will be watching to see what is coming for your blog in the future.

I’m more than happy on Booked Up, posting reviews from time to time ; Fashionta has given me the opportunity to begin to make reviews and with it to practice and improve the English language and for that I cannot thank her enough.

    Jen –

Thanks for introducing me to Fashionta on your blog today! I loved your interview and was intrigued so I went over and read some of her reviews! I couldn’t help myself after that and knew I had to “keep in touch” were her so I signed up for not only her newsletter but facebook as well!

    Fashionta –

I loved How to Romance a Rake by Manda Collins and in fact don’t think she knows how to write a book that not’s fantastic! Manda is definitely an author whose books should be pre-ordered so you can start reading the day they are released! I do love my Kindle and Amazon just for that reason – her books “magically” appear on release!
