Interview & Contest: Stacey Kennedy

Today we are happy to bring you an interview between our staff member, Aubrey, and her guest for the day, Stacey Kennedy.

Aubrey: When did you start writing?

Stacey: I started writing in 2009 and wrote my first book, THE WILLOW. It was a fantastic experience seeing it published. Just this year, I sold that series to Entangled Publishing, and I’ve been working my butt off extending the stories to full-length novels. The books will start coming out in mass-market in Summer 2013. Very exciting times!

Aubrey: When do you find time to write and be a mother/wife?

Stacey: I’m sure any mom can relate that life is crazy when you have two young children. Right now, my daughter goes to school full-time and my son goes part-time. So, I have afternoons to write and use that time the best I can. I turn off any distractions and work very hard, because once they come home its game over. I have to switch on mommy and leave my characters behind. Sometimes I write after they go to bed, but not often to avoid getting the stink eye from the hubby!

Aubrey: What genre do you want to write in that you haven’t already?

Stacey: None. LOL! That’s an honest answer. I really love urban fantasy romance. It’s my most favorite genre to write in and also the easiest for me. I love how creative I can get. Make new worlds and all the adventures that come along with it. I write erotic romance because it’s fun to get naughty every once in a while. I wouldn’t even dare to write sci-fi or historicals because let’s face it, I don’t know anything about those genres. I’d have to research a lot and to be frank, I’m just too lazy and don’t have the time for that. I like to stick to the genres that come naturally to me and my mind never ceases to come up with fun plots.

Aubrey: What genres do you like to read?

Stacey: By far, urban fantasy romance is my favorite. But heck you won’t see me passing up a good story! I love pretty much every genre and I’m a booklover. I’m not hard to please. Give me a good plot, memorable characters, some spicy romance—and I’m sold!

Aubrey: Who are your favorite authors?

Stacey: Top favorites are Keri Arthur, Jeaniene Frost, and Katie MacAlister—they are an auto-buy for me. I adore their work and look forward to every release they put out. Once I have one of their books in my hands, I ignore the world to gobble them up.

Aubrey: What advice do you have for up and coming authors?

Stacey: Just write! That’s the best advice I could give. The more you do it, the better you’ll become. And don’t be too hard on yourself. Everyone has to start somewhere. You don’t have to be perfect right from the get-go. Your craft will improve the more stories you write. So, all in all, have fun with it!

Aubrey: What can you tell us about Demonically Tempted?

Stacey: Demonically Tempted is the second book in Frostbite series. I had a total blast writing this book. But it’s a much darker story then the first in the series. And there’s a very good reason for that. Tess Jennings is pulled into a new direction she never intended to go. Her stress in this book shows and lawd, did I feel it when I wrote it. Tess was always such an easy going character for me to write, but in this story I knew things were changing for her. And the book definitely does have a heavier feel. But can you blame her? She’s dealing with evil ghosts and scary things that go bump in the night! I doubt I’d be in a very good mood either.

I always knew that Demonically Tempted would take the series into more of a paranormal world…and it did. But in truth, it needed to. I fully intend to give Tess a happily-ever-after, but seeing that her hero is a ghost, it won’t come easily. And I’m excited to write the next story that I’m starting soon, MYSTICALLY BOUND, which comes out in the Fall. All the tension building from book two will make book three quite the ride.

Tess & Kipp never disappoint me. They’re fun characters to write!!

Aubrey: Who is your favorite male character that you have written?

Stacey: *gasp* I could never answer this question. I love every single hero I’ve written, or I wouldn’t have written them. They’re impossible to compare because they’re all so different. Of course, they’re all alpha men because I just swoon over them. But each one has a little something special that I love about them.

My best answer to this question is my favorite hero is the one I’m currently writing because he’s one the strongest in my mind.
