I’ve seen so many freaky things since I started attending Mythos Academy last fall. I know I’m supposed to be a fearless warrior, but most of the time, I feel like I’m just waiting for the next Bad, Bad Thing to happen. Like someone trying to kill me–again.

Everyone at Mythos Academy knows me as Gwen Frost, the Gypsy girl who uses her psychometry magic to find lost objects–and who just may be dating Logan Quinn, the hottest guy in school. But I’m also the girl the Reapers of Chaos want dead in the worst way. The Reapers are the baddest of the bad, the people who murdered my mom. So why do they have it in for me? It turns out my mom hid a powerful artifact called the Helheim Dagger before she died. Now, the Reapers will do anything to get it back. They think I know where the dagger is hidden, but this is one thing I can’t use my magic to find. All I do know is that the Reapers are coming for me–and I’m in for the fight of my life.

Review:I absolutely love the world of Gwen Frost! Starting with the prequel, First Frost, to this book, Dark Frost (the third in the series), I have been absolutely captivated by the characters of this world, the setting it is written in, and the plot which has so many twists and turns. Luckily the author, Jennifer Estep, will have six or seven books in this series before it ends!

When I started Dark Frost, I liked how the story continued from where it left off in book two without any jumps and didn’t drag one bit. I felt like I had just read book two yesterday. Gwen is still at school, learning how to use her power and various weapons, still attracted to the boy she just can’t have, and still fighting for her life and the life of her friends and family. We find out that reapers are targeting Gwen to find a dagger her Mom hid before she died. As Gwen tries to find out where her mother could have hidden the dagger in the Library on campus, she must depend on herself and her inner strength more than she ever has. As she discovers even more about herself and her gift of psychometry, she tries to stay true to using her powers for good – even though she has evil thoughts about the reapers, especially the one that killed her mother. As if staying alive isn’t enough, she’s also trying to find out the secret Logan has – the one that he doesn’t want anyone to find out, especially her.

This book did not disappoint. It had tons of action, heartbreaking moments of tenderness, lots of suspenseful scenes, and kept me up reading well past my bedtime. Kudos to Jennifer Estep for keeping this series going.

Thanks for a great review! I”m also soooo behind reading this series. I have the 1st two books on my kindle, they just got buried in the TBR pile. I love, love, love Jennifer’s Elemental Assassin series, and picked this series up in blind faith that they’d be awesome too. Glad to hear that I was right 🙂

  5. I want to read this series but I am way too swamped with books right now… I’ll wait til I own the first book to read it or when I make a dent on my TBR pile

I absolutely adore the Elemental Assassin series and although I have the first couple of books in the Mythos Academy Series, I haven’t had a chance to get started on them yet. I’d better get to reading them soon, since we’re already three books in. I know I’m going to love this series because Jennifer Estep is a fantastic writer.

Great review! I’m glad that it starts off where Kiss of Frost leaves off! This series is one of the few series where the second and third book don’t lag, you know what I mean?

I really like this series. Gwen is tough and funny and the secondary characters are good, too. Plus, she’s got a sardonic, bloodthirsty weapon, which is original.
