Interview & Contest: Toni LoTempio

Jen:  Today we are happy to welcome Toni LoTempio to Romancing the Book as her blog tour makes a stop with us.  Toni, please tell us about Raven’s Quest and where the idea came from.

Toni: Well, Ravens Quest is the sequel to Raven’s Kiss. I wanted to do a novel about a kick ass heroine that had NOTHING to do with vampires, and I came up with the idea of a shape-shifter, bitten by a demon. I also wanted a venue that hadn’t been overdone, so I hit upon the idea of parallel time.

Jen: Is there a genre that you’re dying to try to write?

Toni: I’d like to get back to the genre I originally started with: Mysteries and thrillers – both traditional and cozy. As a matter of fact, I’ve just finished a cozy. I’d also love to write a straight horror story ala Stephen King or John Saul. How about one that you’ll never attempt? – Historical. Although there are certain periods that fascinate me, I’m not that good with detail.

Jen: What’s the most difficult aspect of writing?

Toni: For me, it’s fleshing out the plot. (See answer above) I’m not good with the little details, so it’s a lot of back and forth. Easiest? Hm..probably picking out the character names. Most rewarding? I get an incredible high when I’m about 50 pages away from the big finish!

Jen: If Raven’s Quest was made into a movie, who do you see in the starring roles?

Toni: For Finn, I thought of the actor from Gray’s Anatomy Kevin McKidd, who plays Owen. For Raven, probably Megan Fox or Emma Stone. Doesn’t everyone want Emma Stone these days!

Jen: What’s next for you?

Toni: I have two books out on sub with my agent, so that’s “hurry up and wait” LOL. As far as self pubbing goes – I have a few manuscripts I hope to get out by late 2012 – early 2013. I’d like to do another RAVEN since many people have told me this last one wasn’t long enough for them.

Jen: Please share a bio with us.

Toni: Admin by day, writer by night! I’m a writer of paranormal/traditional mysteries/romantic suspense, who’s been pubbed by small press and independently. I share my life with four needy cats, the neediest being ROCCO, who has his own blog!

Jen: Where can you be found online?

Toni: I do have a website,, but the best place to find out current events is on ROCCO’s blog! We have great interviews and giveaways with authors – on June 5th we have a kick ass Q&A and giveaway featuring Queen Betsy Taylor, courtesy of MaryJanice Davidson. And lots of cool stuff coming up, including a fanfic interview with Richard Castle (and a real one with Carrie Vaughn) in July. ROCCO and I do fundraising for Nathan Fillion’s charity, KIDS NEED TO READ, and we’re having two fundraiser/EBay auctions in July – one is a basket of CASTLE goodies (including a script and autographed photo of NATHAN) and the other is a basket of books donated by some of your favorite authors – MJ Davidson, Carrie Vaughn, etc. Many are autographed! Watch the blog for details the first week in July!

Here I have been responding to Rocco’s blog and talking to Toni via email and FB, and yet have not gotten to her stories! Shame on me! Well, between catching up on a long tbr list, doing research and my won writing,I am dealing with 3 darling time-stealers, my grandkids,(and we won’t even go into the pets; don’t tell Rocco I said that).
Now, well, I will just HAVE to get to Raven’s Kiss so I can get to Raven’s Quest,(even though No Rest for the Wicca is sitting here on my Kindle for PC).
Good interview…it has really spurred me on!
