Ciara: Ciara Knight writes to ‘Defy the Dark’ with her fantasy and paranormal books. She has learned to embrace chaos, which is a requirement when raising three boys, and utilizes the insanity to create stories not of this world including, Fantasy, Paranormal, Sci-Fi, and Young Adult Dystopian.
Ciara: The original idea sparked when I was stuck in traffic one day. A man was seriously ticked off and jumped out of his car to yell at this poor old lady. He was a handsome, buff man, but his face contorted to look demonic. I imagined a nice young man standing up in defense of this poor woman, and that is how my fallen angel and demon story began. Of course, it evolved once I got home and sat down to write.
Ciara: Young Adult is my first love. There are no limitations to how far your imagination can travel and still connect with the readers. Young adults tend to be more accepting of plotlines, and I absolutely love the passion they have for books they enjoy.
I’d love to write science fiction, but only if I could pull off the technical foundation to make the story work.
Ciara: I see a young version of Jeasen Ackles for Alexander, and Jennifer Lawrence for Gaby Moore.
Ciara: JK Rowling’s story inspires me. She is a mother who lived through tough circumstances, but she didn’t give up.
Ciara: I’m finishing book III of the Battle for Souls series, Ascension of Evil. After that, I’m working on a new young adult series, The Neumarian Chronicles. A prequel novelette, Weighted, will be released at the end of summer, followed next year by book I, Escapement, book II, Pendulum, and book III, Balance.
I’m going to be revealing the cover next month. Here is a little blurb for Weighted to give you a hint about the series:
The Great War of 2185 is over, but my nightmare has just begun. I am being held captive in the Queen’s ship awaiting interrogation. My only possible ally is the princess, but I’m unsure if she is really my friend or a trap set by the Queen to fool me into sharing the secret of my gift. A gift I keep hidden even from myself. It swirls inside my body begging for release, but it is the one thing the Queen can never discover. Will I have the strength to keep the secret? I’ll know the answer soon. If the stories are true about the interrogators, I’ll either be dead or a traitor to my people by morning.
Ciara: Alpha male heroes are all the rage in adult romance novels. Do you believe they are acceptable in young adult books? Why or why not?
