Interview & Contest: Imogen Rose

Jen: Today we welcome Imogen Rose to Romancing the Book as part of her blog tour for Initiation. Imogen, do you have a writing routine?

Imogen: No, I just write whenever, usually while I wait outside dance classes waiting for my daughter.

Jen: How do you come up with the characters names?

Imogen: Most of them are from lists of potential baby names that I didn’t get to use.

Jen: If you were to travel back in time for a year, where would you go and what 3 things would you take with you?

Imogen: Given the choice, I would rather travel into the future. I’m a girl who likes modern conveniences, so traveling too far into the past for a whole year is a total no-no. But if I could take my hair straighter, my ultrasonic toothbrush, and my computer—even though the lack of internet would drive me crazy, no doubt—with me, I think it would be fun spending a year in 1920s Paris, hanging out with Fitzgerald, Porter, and Hemingway. And I’d be besties with Gertrude Stein.

Jen: What’s the most interesting comment you’ve received on your writing?

Imogen: I had to smile when someone likened my writing to that of a monkey with ADHD.

Jen: What’s next for you?

Imogen: I am busy writing Integration at the moment. That’s the sequel to the Bonfire Chronicles prequel. 😀

Jen: Please share a bio with us including links to where you can be found online

Imogen: Imogen Rose is the author of the bestselling YA series, the Portal Chronicles. She was born in a small town in Sweden and moved to London in her twenties. After obtaining a PhD in immunology from Imperial College, she moved with her family to New Jersey, where she’s been based for the past ten years.

For as long as she can remember, Imogen has dreamt stories. Stories that continued from night to night, from dream to dream. So, even as a child, going to bed was never an issue, just an anticipation of the story to come.

PORTAL, Imogen’s first novel, would have remained in her imagination, to be shared only with her daughter, Lauren, had her eight-year-old not insisted that she write it down. In the course of a month, Imogen typed while Lauren waited eagerly by the printer for the pages to appear, and a novel took shape.

The warm reception PORTAL received encouraged her to continue with the story and the Portal Chronicles. The Bonfire Chronicles is Imogen’s new YA paranormal series.

Imogen is a self-confessed Hermès addict who enjoys shopping, traveling, watching movies and playing with her dog, Tallulah
