Interview & Contest: Rebecca Royce

Jen: Today we welcome Rebecca Royce to Romancing the Book as she blog tour makes a stop with us.  Rebecca. will you please share a short bio with us?

Rebecca: Hi there. Here is the bio from my website:

As a teenager, Rebecca Royce would hide in her room to read her favorite romance novels when she was supposed to be doing her homework. She hopes, these days, that her parents think it was well worth it.

Rebecca is the mother of three adorable boys and is fortunate to be married to her best friend. They live in northern New Jersey and try not to freeze too badly during the winter months.
She’s in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and tries to use all of these elements in her writing. She’s been told she’s a little bloodthirsty so she hopes that when you read her work you’ll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. Rebecca loves to write series because she loves to see characters develop over time and it always makes her happy to see her favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.

In Rebecca Royce’s world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.

Jen: Tell us about Embraced and where is can be purchased.

Rebecca: This is the second book in the Conditioned series:

Benedicte Lavelle is a single father raising two small daughters. When his neighbors put him in charge of handling the haunting that plagues their neighborhood, he has no choice but to use disreputable means in order to bring in a Conditioned ghost hunter to help with their problem. He doesn’t expect to be drawn to the young woman who arrives at his house in chains. He doesn’t expect to have his entire life thrown into upheaval when she is snatched away.

Conditioned prisoner Seven-Two-Four has never had a name. She cannot read, and is scheduled to die as soon as she is returned to the Institution. The Conditioned are not considered human, but Seven can see ghost energy and she can love Ben like no one ever has before.

When fate takes Seven from Ben’s arms, can he move on and find a new purpose in life or will he be forever trapped by the need to rescue those like his lost love?

It can be purchased at Decadent Publishing and every place you buy books!

Jen: At what age did you discover writing? When where you first published? Tell us your call story.

Rebecca: I’ve been writing my whole life. I wrote my first book in the fourth grade. My first publication came in 2009. I was actually in Disney World with my family when I got the call. It was a great way to celebrate.

Jen: Are there any other writers, published or not, in your family?

Rebecca: No. But I have 3 kids so who knows, maybe one of them will be.

Jen: How do you approach your writing? Do you plot or go with the flow?

Rebecca: I don’t write down a plot. I have a general idea of where the plot should go but I let the writing tell me where it wants to go.

Jen: What are your biggest motivations to write? What keeps you going?

Rebecca: My love of it and the characters in my head prodding at me.

Jen: What is it about the romance genre that appeals to you?

Rebecca: I love a happy ever after.

Jen: What’s the most challenging aspect of writing? Easiest? Most rewarding?

Rebecca: The easiest part is coming up with the general idea of the story. The hardest is doing the writing. And the most rewarding is getting the cover and hearing from readers.

Jen: How do you pick character’s names?

Rebecca: They usually just sort of come to me, once I did some research since I wanted specific meanings. Sometimes I use a baby name book.

Jen: Who has inspired you as an author?

Rebecca: Nalini Singh. Everything she writes is brilliant.

Jen: What did you do to celebrate your first book?

Rebecca: I had dinner with my family.

Jen: What do you do in your free time?

Rebecca: Watch movies, Go to Broadway shows, have dinner out with my husband, travel.

Jen: What’s next for you?

Rebecca: Right now, I am writing the third book in my YA series.

Jen: Where can you be found on the web?

Jen: Is there anything you’d like to ask our readers?

Rebecca: What paranormal creature hasn’t been used enough as a hero?
