Releasing on Tuesday, September 6, CROSS CURRENTS by John Shors tells the remarkable story of three Americans and a local family in Thailand whose personal dramas play out against the landscape of the devastating tsunami of 2004 in Ko Phi Phi Island.
John’s writing is informed by his own personal travels to Ko Phi Phi and he says his latest novel is “a tender love story and a testament to the strength of the human spirit.” John plans to donate a percentage of the proceeds from book sales to the International Red Cross.
CROSS CURRENTS tells the story of two very diverse families have their love and loyalty for each other put to the ultimate test. When Resort owners Lek and Sarai find themselves struggling to support their children, they are thrilled to give Patch, a friendly young American, room and board in exchange for his help. Soon Lek learns that Patch has an expired Visa and is on the run from the law; his presence now endangers Lek’s family. Patch’s brother Ryan arrives with his girlfriend, Brooke, and attempts to convince Patch to turn himself in to the authorities.
Meanwhile, Brooke finds herself spending more time with Patch and starts to question her relationship with Ryan. It doesn’t take long before her feelings grow and Ryan begins to resent the intimate friendship between his girlfriend and his brother. The brothers clash repeatedly and as tensions rise, a violent act threatens to end their relationship for good. Before they can resolve their issues, the tsunami hits the island and takes all the characters’ lives in new and startling directions.
