Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and no one knows this better than New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum.

Dead bodies are showing up in shallow graves on the empty construction lot of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds. No one is sure who the killer is, or why the victims have been offed, but what is clear is that Stephanie’s name is on the killer’s list.

Short on time to find evidence proving the killer’s identity, Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it’s time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend, Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and the bad boy in her life, security expert Ranger. Stephanie’s mom is encouraging Stephanie to dump them both and choose a former high school football star who’s just returned to town. Stephanie’s sidekick, Lula, is encouraging Stephanie to have a red-hot boudoir “bake off.” And Grandma Bella, Morelli’s old-world grandmother, is encouraging Stephanie to move to a new state when she puts “the eye” on Stephanie.

With a cold-blooded killer after her, a handful of hot men, and a capture list that includes a dancing bear and a senior citizen vampire, Stephanie’s life looks like it’s about to go up in smoke.

Review:  If you haven’t ever heard of a character named Stephanie Plum, then you’re missing out on one of the funniest and most addictive book series…ever! If you know and love this character already, then you were probably like me – waiting anxiously for the newest book release…since I’m in the latter category, I pre-ordered this one for my Nook. I wondered, would the book be downloaded right at midnight, later, earlier??? Yes, it’s that type of series where you want to start the book the very minute it’s released! It rolled on in about 11:45 when I could actually download it and I read until I fell asleep.

Here’s why YOU should read every single Stephanie Plum novel there is:

  1. When you are reading one of the books you will bring the book with you everywhere until you finish the book. (Be warned, start it at night when you don’t have work in the morning or errands to run.)
  2. This series will cause you to laugh aloud, several times, in public. Yes, people will look at you, but you won’t notice or care.
  3. Your favorite characters will appear when you least expect it and surprise you, over and over, until you are laughing so hard you are crying.
  4. You can never, ever predict the ending. Really.

Smokin’ Seventeen is hot indeed and I won’t tell you any spoilers here! I can tell you that: Stephanie is back and so is Grandma Mazur, Grandma Bella is back with her evil eye, Lula is back in ALL her fine glory, Morelli is back (yummy), Ranger is back (yummier), and while there’s a new guy at the dinner table (Thanks to Stephanie’s mom), there’s also a lot of dead bodies showing up too. ENJOY! I laughed so much my family kept checking up on me!

Quotes: “Yeah, but you didn’t give no one else a chance yet. There could be something better. You’re already judging the bake off, and you haven’t tasted everyone’s cake.” (Lula to Stephanie) Page 54 of 213

“I don’t even know what to call you,” I said, hands in the air. “What kind of a
relationship is this? “ (Stephanie to Morelli) Page 201 of 213
