With her knack for being in trouble’s way, Sookie Stackhouse witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte’s, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover, Eric Northman, and his “child” Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot—which is much more complicated than she knows. Caught up once again in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human—and that there is a new queen on the board…

Review:  Book 11 is, as always, very well written. Let’s face it, Ms. Harris has been working at her craft for some time now and she knows how to write. ‘Nough said. This series just keeps getting better and better and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Here’s some of what happens in this installment:

When we last left Sookie, she was recovering from the fairy war and the wounds she received while being tortured by her great-grandfather’s enemies. Then Amelia, her best friend and roommate, packs up to move back to New Orleans. But at least she still has Cousin Claude, Great-Uncle Dermot, Sam, and Eric, right?

Well, book 11 starts with Sookie almost completely healed, still working at Merlotte’s, still living with Claude and Dermot, and still in love with Eric. Merlotte’s has been under attack since the shifters and werewolves “came out,” so Sookie has troubles at work. Claude and Dermot are keeping secrets and have an ulterior motive for living with her, so Sookie has troubles at home. Eric is under attack by Victor, his new king’s overlord so Sookie has troubles in bed. Basically, Sookie has troubles and will have to do her best to untangle herself from the mess she is in. Not to mention that Alcide, the werewolf alpha, still hasn’t found a pack shaman and would love to start dating Sookie again so that he can use her psychic skills. Bill is still very sick from the silver poisoning he got during the fairy war and lets Sookie know he would feel much better if only she would donate some blood. Eric is being tense and mysterious and fighting with Pam, who quite obviously wants him to tell Sookie what’s going on, but he refuses. So now Sookie is wondering if she really loves Eric or is it just the blood-bond that makes her feel so good when he’s around. Sookie figures it’s time to find out and the $h!t really hits the fan! You’ll have to read the story yourself to find out what happens next.
